MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS
In an effort to provide more clarity to you about membership numbers, we have created a Full Time
Equivalent (FTE) equation to better represent where our membership stands. The below FTE number is
found by dividing our current dues revenue by $475. Please note that this FTE should not be compared to
2016 because of the revised dues structure. However the FTE should be used to track our progress
moving forward in 2017. While we have more active members in actuality than the number below, we feel
this provides a clearer at-a-glance representation.
Total # of Members: 511
FTE # of Members: 325
Equity # of Members: 319
Happy Freezing New Year! So far, this year’s weather has been either freezing or
standing water on top of frozen ground. I hope by the time this article arrives it is warm
and sunny. While weather impacts playability of the course, the dining area is open,
warm and ready to serve your meal by our skilled, friendly staff. Keep the club in mind
when heading out for that dining engagement. The pro shop is also open and always
ready to assist with gear for NW winter golfing.. Support your club whenever possible.
The club is fortunate to continue to experience solid membership numbers, but
retaining current and attracting new members is a focal point. The Progressive
Membership is available through April, so encourage friends, family and acquaintances to
give it a try. Even those certain a private club isn’t for them will be pleasantly surprised
and there is a safety valve of a minimal investment and no long term commitment!
Membership input is always welcome and is a vital part of the club’s success. Feedback
is solicited periodically via the surveys and your candid response is extremely valuable.
Surveys are planned for twice a year. The results are used to measure member
satisfaction (return on enjoyment!) and as one tool to evaluate staff performance.
Outside of the surveys, should issues arise the most effective course of action is to
communicate, via email, phone or in person, directly with management. The first board
meeting of 2017 was January 26th. Among the goals this year are optimizing board
structure, reviewing the club’s shared services agreement with MVMA and strategic
planning.
Discussion will focus on capital projects that will retain and attract new membership.
Following changes implemented the last few years, the board’s focus is on long range
planning partnered with monitoring
current financial performance and assisting management in achieving goals.
Looking forward to a great year!
Debbie Herron, Chairperson

Meridian Valley country Club
As of February 1, 2017 I am officially a member of the PGA of America.
This January I tested out of the third level of the PGA education
curriculum. I entered the PGA apprentice program in the fall of 2011
and have been working toward becoming a member ever since. It has
been quite the journey and I could not have done it without the
support from all of the members at Meridian Valley. Each level of the
program can cost $2,000-$3,000 which is quite the undertaking for
any Assistant Golf Professional. Those fees go toward books, testing
fees, and a week long trip to PGA Education headquarters in Port St.
Lucie, Florida where all students attend 5 days worth of seminars and
get the opportunity to see what other professionals are doing around
the country. With your donations and Glowball Tournament
participation the past two years I was able to attend my seminars and
finish my bookwork.
I would like to extend a thank you to all of the people who helped me along the way from my
family, members, students, mentors, and fellow golf professionals. It truly was a group effort. To
celebrate I attended the 2017 Teaching and Coaching Summit and PGA Merchandise Show in
Orlando last week. I look forward to continuing my education and bringing all knowledge and
experiences back to Meridian Valley to continue to grow the game. 2017 is going to be our best
year yet. Thank you again to all those who made this possible, I am now a proud PGA Member!
Sincerely,
Carissa Simmons, PGA

2017 MVCC GHIN Golf
Handicap Information
GHIN Golf handicaps will be
activated in Washington (MVCC) on
March 1. All golfers should maintain a
golf handicap to be able to 1) track
his/her golfing progress and 2)
compete in club golf competitions.
The 2017 cost of a GHIN golf
handicap ($31 for adults and $5 for
juniors) is set by the Washington
State Golf Association. The cost is an
annual cost, January 1 – December31,
regardless of whether the handicap is
activated on January 1, July 1 or any
other date prior to November 15.
If you do not have a golf handicap,
NOW IS THE TIME to establish
one. If you have/had a handicap with
a golf organization other than
MVCC, now is the time to transfer
the handicap to MVCC. MVCC will
bill for handicaps in the February
billing. Handicaps added after that
billing will be billed individually. There
is no refund for active handicaps
after March 1.
If you wish to establish an MVCC
GHIN golf handicap contact Robert
Steiner (rlsteiner@comcast.net)
MVCC Handicap Chair, or the golf
shop staff. You can also pick up a
Handicap Request Form in the
MVCC office or the golf shop.
