Environmental 1/6

In our community we have lots of parks. These are environmentally preserved. The parks serve as a useful enviroment for the younger children in the community.

Environmental 2/6

In arenas we have a machine called a brine that keeps the arena cold. Because of the specific machine that hey use the air in the community is not as polluted as others would be .

Environmental 3/6

We have the blue recycling bin program that the municipal government supplies to every house.

Environmental 4/6

Our municipality is facing global warming.

Environmental 5/6

New roads are being built and there is lots of construction being done to increace houses in the neighbourhood.

Environmental 6/6

What kind of construction is going on, traffic issues, sewer and water infrastructure.

Social 2/8

The population has changed recently because of the fact that there is the recession and the economic boom.

Social 7/8

We have a walk-in clinic just outside the community for those who need it.

Daphney’s answers.

Political 1/6

Yes, because there are more people who want to be mayor, alderman, etc.

Political 2/6

Lots of people deserve to be mayor but I think the mayor we have now deserves to be mayor.

Political 3/6

The municipal council has to make some of the streets wider. The community agrees with it because it will make the traffic less difficult.

Political 4/6

You can communicate with the council by mailing a letter or forming an assembly. It is easy to find and use it.

Political 5/6

They work together on creating new streets, making new c-train passages, making rules for parking and controlling police and fire.

Political 6/6

It’s important to know about:

Their new objectives.

Their law.

Their new budget.

Social 1/8

The population is 1,062,310.

Social 8/8

There are lots of houses for sale and it’s a good place for kids and it’s close to MRU so lots of university students live here.

Maxime’s answers.

Technological 1/6

Some communities and municipalities have cafés with computers.

Technological 2/6

Yes, it’s easy and it has businesses and political stuff.

Technological 3/6

Yes because we keep track of everything. If there’s a problem, we know about it. You can call 3-1-1 if you need info.

Technological 4/6

People know too much and people get worried.

Technological 5/6

A new way to give information.

Technological 6/6

The system and the activities.

Social 3/8

The economy because people buy houses, get jobs and always want more.

Social 4/8

Community centres and city halls.

Maximilian’s answers.

Social 5/8

Community members volunteer a great amount, for example, arranging events such as cul-de-sac parties, cleaning up dog poop in the local park with neighbours, a Stampede pancake breakfast, community organizations such as Cubs, Scouts and sport clubs. Volunteerism is thriving in this community.

Social 6/8

The community advertises its social programs and services by putting up posters and roadside signs, putting advertisements in the « South Calgary Scanner » or other local newsletters and directories and going door-to-door.

Economic 1/8

In Garrison Woods, people’s occupations are: designer, doctor, coach, pilot, engineer, physiotherapist, chef, social worker, nurse, civil servant, oil and gas producer, university student, video store clerk, restaurant waiter, hair stylist, librarian, etc.,etc.,etc.

Economic 2/8

There are some « help wanted » signs up in stores but not very many. It is still easy for people to find a job. Many people work outside the community including doctors. Most people work downtown.

Economic 3/8

The only projects I know about are the apartment building and strip mall that is being built in Marda Loop and the arena that is being added to the Centennial arenas. There are lots of new homes being built.

Economic 4/8

A plan for the future is to renovate the little park three doors down from my home. This would benefit many children because they would have more room to play. There are some homes that are planning renovations in the area. The home renovations will benefit the families. The whole city will benefit from adding arenas and recreation centers.

Economic 5/8

The types of houses in Garrison Woods are varied. For example there are: apartments, townhouses, single family homes, condos, a senior citizen complex. Therefore, people have many options for places to live. Because of rising house prices, there are many for sale signs up right now.

Economic 6/8

There will be new businesses starting up when the apartment and strip mall open. There was a good french restaurant named Jojo’s, but that restaurant has moved… to Morocco! Some businesses close, but just as many take their place. In general, Garrison Woods is growing. We could use a good toboganning hill and more restaurants.

Economic 7/8

There are some challenges that the residents of Garrison woods are facing at the moment. Many residents work in the oil and gas industry and risk losing their jobs.

Economic 8/8

Sometimes people have parties late at night, but other than that, it’s a quiet and calm community.
