the acquisition, retention, and provision of access to information sources in support of the diverse needs of a given library community
Collection Management
is the subpart of collection management that has primarily to do with decisions that will result in the acquisition of materials
Collection Development
is the process of actually securing materials for the library’s collection
Acquisition
but the overall process used to select and evaluate them tends to remain the same
Formats collected may change
Both physical and virtual, used in house and remotely,
and are constantly changing
