The purpose of this portfolio is to present my work as a Graphic Designer, Animator, and Illustrator.

While it displays what I perceive to be my best work, it is far from all inclusive.

In Fall of 2004, I began attending Ringling School of Art and Design

(now called Ringling College) as a Computer Animation major. Several years and one major change later,

my portfolio has begun to reflect me as an artist. The supporting narratives are here to describe and to

give some flavour of my creative activity.

Gamer Health CampaignThe campaign project allowed us to pick a single topic to design an

entire campaign around. Gamer fitness and health was the topic of

selection, which lead me to design a website, and multiple forms of physical advertisements. The campaign was built up around the idea

of turning exercise into a game, thereby making it more attractive

to gamers.

Book Design: Common ThemeThese pages are from a class project, which involved designing a small

book revolving around a central theme. In this case, the central theme

was time, and perceptions of it through history. The red thread travels

throughout the book, and the cross form appears on each page. Each

represents time in a different manner.

Experience InfographicType In Space

My process tends to be very methodical. The brief given is dissected. I try to find an “active” solution, that is, a solution to which I can write

a story about. This often results in dead ends and many variations. After beginning a story, it’s a process of give and take, as the design

influences the story, which influences the design. I find many sources of inspiration for my stories. I work best under a short deadline, with

a project with relatively tight constraints. If the project at hand is too open, or too much time given, I often get lost in the possibilities and

present too many variations or paths to pursue.

Aesthetics and critical approaches to my design and stories respectively influence each other and then my decisions. The aesthetics are often

influenced greatly by thematic elements found in my research. Setbacks, struggles, and doubt are dealt with as story variations. Though

writing often meets dead ends as well, the story is easily changed to produce better results.

Experience Mapping was a quick information based graphic that

asked students to map their workflow. We were asked to work with

both qualitative and quantitative information. The infographic that

followed was to show a clear mapping of the somewhat scattered

and often non-linear experience of an artist at work.

The poster on the opposite page was developed from a Type in

Space project, encouraging students to take advantage of the two

dimensional nature of the poster and the ability to trick the eye into

seeing three-dimensional shapes.

Paper CityThe Paper City project challenged students to design an entire city

based are a single concept or theme. Each city needed to be buildable

using paper and then packaged.

The Hypercity is a concept of condensing all the parts of a city into

a single contained area. As such, the design is modular and can be

arranged in any number of configurations, repeated indefinitely, and

is stackable as a way to maximize space.

Poetry In Motion - OzymandiasIn the Poetry in Motion project, we were asked to create a motion

piece utilizing the text of a poem (or portion of a poem) and then

visually interpret the text of the poetry to provide a context and

feeling the piece.

Synaesthetic Frenetic - Jazz CircuitUsing a segment of provided audio, create a visual interpretation

of the piece. The visual translation of even a literal interpretation

should result in an abstract or indirect visual result. The Motion Piece

here was based off a electronic jazz clip and resulted in a lightboard

inspired piece.

Character Design The characters opposite were developed for class projects.

The self-charicature (top-right) was developed for Computer Animation

for use in a lip-sync project.

The tall character above was developed as a main character in a

thesis proposal during Computer Animation. He was to be a carefree

god of the wind.

Character TurnaroundsThe character above is a self-charicature designed. modeled, rigged,

and textured for lip-sync and animation projects. The Grim Reaper

was modelled, rigged, and textured for a student short.

Museum Branding DesignThe Museum Branding project focused on designing a system of color,

type, and application of imagery all to brand a toy musuem. Standard

campaign colors and advertisements were to be developed, and then

variations based on changes such as seasons and/or exhibits.
