The HA3 social entrepreneurial mission is twofold: it strives to

improve the viable and sustainable livelihood of rural Moroccan communities, while

maintaining an eco-friendly approach to economic growth.

HA3-HAF builds green economies by establishing:1. Provincial Cooperatives focused on organic agriculture and participatory development – united in a national Network

2. Tree (walnuts & almonds) & medicinal plant nurseries & irrigation

3. Training in organic methods & project management

4. Value processing & organic certification

5. Projects in human development (through investment of a portion of net profits)

The Business and the People:– HA3 will deliver to consumers an organic, Fair Trade and carbon neutral

product with added value.

– 75% of rural households earning less than the national average

– HA3 will increase household incomes by 400% over 5 years

The Market: – HA3 will distribute nationally for

experience, and then export.

– HA3 will provide stock in bulk to a

limited number of retail suppliers.

Business Drivers and Risks: Driver:

• US-Moroccan free trade agreement, favorable status with the EU and regionally.

• Competitive advantage: Morocco is one of six almond-producing countries

Risk: Drop in global organic prices of

walnut and almond combined with a rise

in Moroccan domestic prices.

Demand: Global demand and prices of

almonds and walnuts have doubled over

the past 11 years.

The International Dimension of the Product:– HAF has submitted and is developing proposals to implement our

“farm to fork” business plan over the next 5 years in:

• Jordan

• Palestine

• Saudi Arabia

• Burkina Faso

The HA3 Management Team:To manage the Coops, HAF is training local women/men leaders and agriculturalists in:

• Organic cultivation, value-added & marketing

• Governance and financial management

• Participatory planning & management

HA3 Gross Revenue

Needs for support: – Coaching: HA3-HAF welcomes technical support with organic

certification audits, biomass energy production, .

– Networking: HA3-HAF seeks partnerships with international buyers of organic products, now with almond and walnut purchasers.

Funding Requirement: – In 2014, HA3 will purchase from Coop farmers

200,000 kg of unshelled certified organic walnuts, valued at $650,000; and 50 tons of unshelled almonds valued at $80,000. Farmers need to be paid upfront.
