YEAR 4 UPDATE Y4 began 2020 with origami penguins! This introduced a focus on the chil-
dren’s approach to learning and how a Growth Mindset can have a positive
impact on so many aspects of their life. How lucky we all are that J.K. Rowling
didn’t give up when her Harry Potter books were turned down by twelve
different publishers; her resilience and determination resulted in phenomenal
success. Although not on quite the same scale, the children were all eventual-
ly proud of their origami penguins!
The Romans’ Rule project has inspired the Y4 pupils in many ways. The chance
to develop their own enquiry question, choose their own area to research and
then present their knowledge in their own choice of format really has seen
them become historians. The chance to write as a Roman soldier and then as
Boudicca has brought out some fantastically emotive language and some very
persuasive techniques. Who could not feel compelled to join Boudicca when
you hear a speech such as Connie’s, ‘I widow of Prastagus, believe that his
shadow still roams the land after his discouraging death. You must remember
if I drop down onto the blood-stained floor, Prastagus’ soft, gentle hands will
symbolise his love for you.’‘! The children have shown great originality and
creativity in their Roman mosaic designs and their personalised Roman
shields.
Almost every aspect of maths involves times tables knowledge, so it has been
great to see so many pupils improving their times tables knowledge. There is
fierce competition between the three classes to see who has the most SMILE
badges!

MINDFULNESS DAY
It is Mindfulness Day on Friday 14th February. The children will be taking part
in a variety of activities such as, arts and crafts, yoga, dance and meditation.
They should come to school in comfortable clothes. E.g jogging bottoms, t-
shirts and jumpers with soft shoes. Please bare in mind they will still be going
out onto the playground, so they must be warm. Cropped tops are not suita-
ble.
CRAFT SUPPLIES Please can children from Y1, 2 & 3 bring in a tube for mindfulness day such as an empty Pringles tube, a kitchen or toilet roll tube. These will be used for a craft activity. Thank you. PTFA MEETING
There is a PTFA meeting in Y3 Murray class on Wednesday 26th February at
7pm. All parents are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there.

their children. Please can we ask all parents and carers to check their children’s
hair and use treatments if needed. Please ensure all long hair is tied back at all
times.

PTFA EASTER CHOCOLATE BINGO
The PTFA are organising another fabulous Chocolate Bingo Night on Friday 27th
March This is hugely popular every year and is a lot of fun! Tickets are available
on Classlist and a paper application is available from the office. A mufti day will
be held on Friday 20th March to collect Easter chocolate donations.
Y1 FIRE, FIRE OUTCOME
Y1 parents and carers are invited to the outcome of their Fire, Fire project on
Thursday 13th February. Please come at the time stated for your child’s class.
You will need to sign in at the school office.
Van Gogh 1.15pm / Monet 1.50pm / Lowry 2.25pm
SCOOTERS AND BIKES It is wonderful that children scoot and cycle to school, but please can we ask that no children or adults use scooters and bikes in the playground. They must be walked carefully through the playground and secured in the designated areas to ensure no one is injured. MORNING CLUBS/SPORTS
If you are bringing your children to sports clubs or morning activities, please can
you ensure you stay with your children until a member of staff takes the register.
A number of children are left in the office unattended and to ensure the safety of
your children you must stay with them.

Hill View- Our Integrated Curriculum.
At Hill View Primary Academy, we are
passionate and proud about the exciting
Integrated Curriculum that we have
developed over several years. It is distinct
to our school and ensures that children’s
learning in school is broad and balanced.
The intention behind our curriculum is to
inspire and engage our pupils in
meaningful and vibrant learning. Our
learning values provide a foundation for
lifelong learning. The values underpin our
approach to delivering the National
Curriculum Programme of Study. All of our
teachers are subject leaders that work in
teams. They have developed a clear view of intent for each subject. These provide golden threads of
clarity for each subject through our blended curriculum approach.
The implementation of our curriculum has been developed over several years. It continues to evolve
as teachers deliver, evaluate and improve the provision. Learning is recorded in one pupil book that
has English, linked values and linked curriculum strands in an immersive and fun way that makes
sense to every child.
At a practical level, each new learning project
begins with something memorable and fun. We
call this the Hook. For example, recently, in the
Reception Classes there was the buzz of
excitement as the Hook launched a project with
learning about winter at its heart and creativity
and thinking as values. As they walked into their
outside space, the children were covered in snow
(from a snow machine) and were thrilled as they
explored glittered blocks of ice and fished for
frozen sharks in their water tray! Similar
experiences and outcomes are a feature of every
year group across the school. Children learn and
apply reading, writing and maths in a meaningful
and engaging way.
Parents are involved in a partnership that has Home Learning as an important and central part of the
project. For example, the Reception children were encouraged to try some experiments with ice
from the fridge at home, whereas in Year 5 and 6 children had to research, discuss and work to make
an advert or travel guide.
Every teacher is a leader of a subject and many work in teams together. They check the impact of
the teaching and learning through looking in books, reviewing standards and speaking with children.
The impact of this approach to curriculum delivery is evident well beyond the learning progress in
books. Our pupils are noted, by visitors, for they way in which they talk with confidence about their
learning. Their enjoyment of their Integrated Curriculum projects bursts through as they recall
memorable experiences that will stay with them for life and be deepened as they go through
Secondary School and beyond. Happy children are motivated learners with an appetite for

knowledge and this is what makes our approach to learning at Hill View something that parents
choose for their children to experience.
We cannot predict what kind of jobs will be around when your child grows up and enters the world
of work. However, at Hill View, we work hard to ensure they will become well-rounded, self-reliant
and confident adults, prepared to be creative, emotionally intelligent and collaborative team
members. Oh… and with very happy memories of their school days!
