Late in the afternoon, various towns and villages commemorate the Passion of the Christ with a solemn procession of statues carried by bearers, each of which represents a particular episode of the Passion. Between one statue and another, participants dressed as biblical characters follow the procession. Many processions also include men bearing a cross or dragging chains tied to their bare feet as an act of faith or penance.

In the morning on Easter Sunday, a statue of the Risen Christ is carried through the streets, accompanied by a marching band playing festive tunes. The procession concludes with the statue-bearers triumphantly running through the streets, until the statue is returned to the church.

Traditionally, children are given chocolate-coated Easter eggs and a ‘�golla’, which is an almond-�lled pastry in the shape of a rabbit, lamb, �sh or heart, covered in icing sugar.
