5 School Store Must-Haves
to Maximize Profits!
School stores are a great way to increase student engagement and school spirit while making a profit.
A big decision school store managers face is what to order. There are countless options for spirit wear,
school supplies, and novelty items to choose from for your store shelves.
Here is a list of the top 5 school store must-haves to maximize profits:
It is a good idea to have some staples in your store
from year-to-year, but don’t be afraid to add new, novelty items.
Fans love other spirit items like wigs and megaphones, which can also
bring you a nice profit. Essential items like sunglasses, lanyards, and
key chains are also top sellers that bring in a steady profit.
Undecided on which items to buy? Call our customer service team
at 1-800-848-0258 and ask to see samples of items that most
interest you. Once you receive your samples, show them to a dozen
students and ask them which ones they like best. It should be clear
which items your students will love once you get their candid opinions.
1. ApparelThis is a broad category, but it is a proven
best seller in most school stores. Order
a variety of sweatshirts, T-shirts, shorts,
sweatpants, hats, and jackets for your
school store. In terms of maximizing profits,
sweatshirts are your best choice--you can
make a profit up to $10 per sweatshirt
you sell.
2. DrinkwareWater bottles in particular are great items
to have in your school store. You can also
sell simple cups, tumblers, and coffee mugs.
When trying to maximize your profits, water
bottles give you the best profit, at up to $4
per water bottle.
3. BagsBackpacks and bags are must-haves
for any school store. Drawcord bags
are particularly popular with students.
Athletes especially love duffel bags, so
be sure to have some duffel bags in
stock. Bags are hot sellers, and you can
make a profit up to $3 per bag.
4. PomsStudents love something they can
wave at the big game, and poms and
cheer sticks are no exceptions. The are
a low-priced item that everyone wants
to have so they usually sell out fast at
sporting events. Plus, poms bring in a
nice profit of up to $2 per item.
5. EyeBlacksEyeBlacks are extremely popular
with both athletes and fans. They
are also a low-priced item and
fast seller. So, even though the
profit per item is low, you can
sell a ton quickly at a game and
make a big profit, usually around
$1 per pair.

Whether you are using your school store as a fundraising venue or you are planning, organizing,
and executing a fundraiser outside of your school store, the goal is the same:
To earn money for your school, team or organization.
That means making a profit above and beyond what you put into the fundraising efforts.
How? Here’s the 411 on quick and easy fundraising.1. Know your goals.
How much money do you need to raise?
How are you going to do it?2. Know your customers.
Sell items people want.
If they don’t like ‘em, they won’t buy ‘em.
3. Know your price.
Buy high value, low priced items from Anderson’s
School Spirit and resell them for more than you paid.
4. Know your products.
What are they? Why will people want them?
How will you advertise them?5. Know your time frame.
What is your goal date? Will you be fundraising at
events throughout the year? When are they?
6. Know where to go for help.

and more, check out our blog and online resources.
6 STEPS FOR CREATING A FANTASTIC FUNDRAISER
Fundraising: It’s All About What You Know!
10 FUNDRAISING IDEAS:1. One Person’s Junk
Everyone will find new treasures at a school-wide rUmmAgE SAlE!
Ask students, teachers, and parents to raid their closets, bedrooms, and
music collections for items to donate. Then, have a huge sale in the school
gym with all proceeds going to finance your next big event. Don’t forget to
invite community members! 2. 50/50 RaffleAn easy way to raise money fast! Sell tickets during sporting events, lunch,
and concerts at school. Better yet, go into the community and sell tickets
at businesses and events, or even go door-to-door. make a goal to sell XX
number of tickets. When all tickets are sold, have a drawing. The winning
ticket number gets half the proceeds, your group gets the other half.
Example: Sell 2500 tickets for $2 each. You make $5,000.
Winning ticket and your group each get $2,500.3. Custom T-ShirtsBoost school pride & raise funds at the same time! SEll T-SHIrTS imprinted
with your school name, mascot, Prom theme, or a fun, witty phrase.
4. MORP(Prom spelled backwards!) Have a casual “mOrP” to raise money for Prom.
The key is to spend as little as possible on the dance so everything you
make is profit. Decorate with items your school already has, or ask the Art
Department to help with decorations, tickets, and banners announcing the
dance. Skip the band or DJ and see if someone can broadcast mP3 music.
get parents to take tickets, chaperone, and sell concessions.5. Chili Cook-offA great alternative to a spaghetti dinner or pancake breakfast! Hold a
CHIlI-FEED WITH A COOk-OFF and prizes for the winners. This idea means
you don’t have the cost of providing food. Everyone brings the food, you
charge $5 at the door, and everyone gets to eat to their heart’s content.
Number each pot of chili and ask everyone to vote for their favorites. Don’t
forget prizes for the winners!Category Ideas: Mild, Medium, Hot, Healthiest, Most Creative
6. Video Game Tournament
Host an all-night (or all-weekend) vIDEO gAmE TOUrNAmENT in your school
gym. Charge a fee for participants and sell popcorn or other refreshments.
Then get ready for the games to begin.Game Ideas: Call of Duty, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Mario Kart, FIFA, Halo
7. Water, Water Everywhere
Host a fun CAr or DOg WASH. get student or parent volunteers to wash, dry,
and polish the cars (or dogs!), and make signs to let your community know
when you are open for business. Provide hoses, buckets, soap, towels, and
refreshments for the crew. The money will add up in no time!
8. Pets on ParadeWhose cat is the cutest? Which dog has the most talent? Who has the
most unusual pet? let judges decide by holding a PET PAgEANT in your
school gym. Have students and teachers pay an entry fee and bring their
pets to vie for the title in a variety of categories. Everyone loves animals,
and you will earn some extra money for your event.9. Show Business!let all the singers, dancers, jugglers, and magicians at your school have
their moment in the spotlight with a school-wide TAlENT SHOW. get
parents involved, too, and let them strut their stuff while their kids sit in
the audience and watch them. Advertise in your community and charge
a small admission fee.10. Food is FunFor hands-on food fun, host a BUIlD-YOUr-OWN-SANDWICH Or
ICE CrEAm SUNDAE EvENT. Charge an entry fee and provide the fixin’s.
(See if you can get a local business to donate provisions.) give small prizes
for the biggest, most creative, and most disgusting food creation.
