Appraisal

Is a techniques used by companies to evaluate the performance of their employees. Formally or Informally.

Formal Appraisal – is a meeting to discuss employee performance. (Usually yearly)

Informal Appraisal – Manager will make judgements on a daily basis. Employee isn’t told this is happening.

Formal AppraisalA criteria is set to judge the employee’s performance.

By doing this this means that the company will be able to:

Identify strengths and weaknesses

Is the employee ready for promotion?

Asses the Recruitment/Selection process

Identify any training needed

Award a rise in salary

Target Setting must be •Precise e.g. I am going to do more revision.
