ENCYCLOPEDIA
An encyclopedia is a set of
books that tells interesting
facts. Each book is in ABC
order and they are in sets of
books. I would use an
encyclopedia to find the thing
I’m looking for. I looked up
video games and I leaned that
they all have to have a
joystick or a control pad with
buttons/or a keyboard.
THIS IS A THESAURUS
A thesaurus is a book of synonyms.
It is in ABC order and has guide
words in it so you can find a word.
You can use a thesaurus to look up
synonyms. I found the word flag or
you can use the word banner. You
can also use a thesaurus to find a
word like “problem” you can use the
word – question, mystery, puzzle or
riddle instead. I think you will like
this book.
THIS IS A DICTIONARY
A dictionary is a book that helps
you spell the word that you need.
It also tells the meaning of the
word. It is in ABC order. It has
guide words on the page to help
to find the word. It can help you
spell the word and find the
definition. I looked up the word
small. It means little. I gave Mrs.
Carter a small pieces of a pizza.
ALMANAC
An almanac is a book of facts
and events in a year. It’s
organized by a table of
contents. To find fun fact and
subjects. In the 2012 almanac
it tells about an earthquake
in Japan that happened in
March 2011 and caused a
huge tsunami. .
THIS IS THE ATLAS.
The atlas is a book about
maps. The atlas is organized
with a table of contents. I
would use it to find parts of
the world. I could use the
atlas to find how many miles
it would be to travel to
Mexico city and which roads
we should take.
