In collaboration with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) the IWC will contribute 20% of the course fees for the Advanced Certificate (Level 3) or Diploma (Level 4) - the bursary is only available to financially disadvantaged students in markets outside the UK. Students should seek a suitable course at their local WSET Approved Program Provider (APP), and then apply to the local IWC Ambassador for a financial bursary.
In applying for a financial bursary, students must submit an application form with a brief resume of their career to date, and documentation of current earnings, to support the application.
If applying for a bursary towards a Level 3 course, applicants must already hold the WSET Level 2 Award (the Intermediate Certificate) to be eligible to apply.
For a bursary towards the Level 4 Diploma, applicants must already hold the WSET Level 3
Award (the Advanced – or Higher – Certificate).
Please note that applicants who do not hold the relevant WSET qualification are restricted from benefitting from the IWC bursary.
The value of the bursary, if approved, will be credited to the Approved Program Provider (APP) of WSET courses to enable them to discount the course fee of the applicant. If successful the applicant must complete all the examinations in the program or refund the bursary to the IWC.
The IWC is committed to furthering the wine knowledge of members of the wine trade. Every year ‘Associate Judges’ are invited to taste alongside professionals where they receive first-hand experience of judging at a world class level. Though their marks are not included in the final score, this opportunity further enhances their knowledge of wine styles from around the world.
The IWC bursary is an extension of the dedication to wine
education. The student with the highest score annually will be invited to judge at the IWC in April, in London.
Please complete the application form, then email it directly to bursary@international winechallenge.com
We expect the bursary to cover approximately 200 applicants annually, and please note that applications may not be successful, even if they fulfil the criteria for a bursary.
No correspondence will be entered into, as the decision of IWC and its ambassadors is final.
