Northern Territory Board Member vacancies

Expressions of Interest are now sought for appointments to the

following Boards:

• Health Practitioner Members – Medical, Nursing & Midwifery, Physiotherapy

• Community Members – Nursing & Midwifery, Physiotherapy.

State, Territory and Regional Board appointments are made by the

Minister for Health under the Health Practitioner Regulation Law Act as in

force in each state and territory. Appointments are for up to three years,

with eligibility for reappointment.

Through this process, we will be making recommendations for the

appointment of Committee and Panel members as required.

GENESEE and Wyoming ex-pects to recommence freightoperations on theirAdelaide-to-Darwin rail linein the middle of next monthfollowing restoration worksof the Edith River Bridge.

But the company says thereopening of the line couldbe delayed by the discoveryof additional damage to thebridge or weather-related in-terruptions to the repairs.

Since the derailment of aGWA goods train on Decem-ber 27 — in flood waters cau-sed by Cyclone Grant — thecompany’s train serviceshave been terminating atKatherine, where the freighthas been forwarded to Dar-win by road.

‘‘The majority of the de-railed rolling stock andfreight containers have beenremoved from the site, andGWA’s environmental re-mediation of the site is ongo-

ing,’’ the company said yes-terday. ‘‘Crews are focusedon restoring the abutmentsto the north and south endsof the bridge, where a de-tailed inspection of thebridge structure has re-vealed unexpected damagethat will require additionalrestoration work.

‘‘It is now anticipated thatfreight operations will resu-me on February 14.’’

The Ghan will also resumeits complete Adelaide-to-Darwin train journeys onthat date.

The interruption hasmeant passengers have beenrequired to complete thefinal three hours of the jour-ney by bus — from Kather-ine to Darwin — but GreatSouthern Rail spokesmanDavid Smith said ticket saleshad been unaffected.

‘‘It’s been a fantastic featon their (GWA) behalf to getthe bridge rebuild done theway they have,’’ he said.
