Let Me Tell You Who I Really Am

By Lynn Vormbrock

I am the sparkle in the eye of a girl about to meet a princess

I am the ghost of a piercing in the ear of a rebellious adult whose father already told her no

I am the tissue wiping a tear of someone who has seen Kate and Leo flying over the Atlantic

I am the reading light glowing at 2am for just one more chapter

I am the nonexistent shadow you see out of the corner of your eye

I am the crinkly tissue paper in a new box of shoes

I am the show-stopper on a Broadway album performed in my shower

I am the colorful thread magically weaving crosses into pictures

I am the fresh smell of an overly cleaned countertop

I am the wagging tail of an excited dog meeting you at the door after a long day

I am the golden bloom in a black winter

I am the Big Dipper in a clouded night sky
