Dear Dr. Hambali Sahali,
We would like to invite you and your staff to visit our school SMP Duta Bangsa, where weare engaged in an exciting service learning project.
Service-learning is a teaching method that engages our students in solving problems within
their school and communities as an integral part of their academic studies. It is hoped that
students master important curriculum content by making meaningful connection betweenwhat they study and its real-life applications. Besides, students become more effective
citizens through acts of kindness, community stewardship and civic action. This effort is
made possible with support from Learn and Serve America, a program of the corporation for National and Community Service.
May we suggest that you visit us on January 11, 2010 at 10 o’clock? This will give you an
opportunity to see our program in action. We have also invited our community partners,
members of the local media, and several families of students whom we serve. They are eager to talk to you about the importance of investing in service-learning activities in our local
community.

On July 20, 1969, the dream to visit the moon came true. Two American astronauts landed

things scientists wanted to know. Then they climbed back into their moon-landing craft. Next day the landing-craft rockets roared as the two men blasted off from the moon. They
joined Michael Collins in the space ship that waited for them above the moon. Then they began
the long trip back to earth.Behind them they left the craters, plains, and tall mountains of the moon. They left the

MAKING CANDLES
Making coloured and scented candles is really quick and simple. What's more, you'llsave so much money. If making candle is easy, why do you ever buy one from a
shop? What you need in making candle are wax, moulds, wick , dye discs, essential
oils, and a double boiler. All these materials are available from craft shops. Or if you
do not want to buy them, you can improvise with an old saucepan, Pyrex jug, or evena sturdy can, in a pot of water. After providing the materials, follow this procedure or
instruction in making candles!
First of all, melt the wax. All wax has a flash point, so to prevent it bursting into
flames; you must melt it in a double boiler, with water in the bottom of the pan.
Then, prepare the mould with the wick. Thread the wick through the mould and
make sure that you leave a good few centimeters sticking out of the hole in the
bottom.
After that, add the scent. If you want a scented candle, add a few drops of essentialoil to the melted wax. You can use any essential oil you like, as long as it doesn't
contain water.
Next step, pour the wax into the mould. Try and tip the wax into the mouldquickly, all in one go, to minimize spillage and air bubbles.
Then, release the bubbles and top it up. Releasing the air bubbles will eventuallymake the candle sink, so you will need to top it up with more melted wax.
Finally, remove it from the mould. After four or five hours, the candle can be taken
out of its mould.
Your candle is now ready for display. Remember, you must always leave it for a day
before lighting it.

SCOTLAND
A lot of people think that Scotland is a part of England but this is untrue.
Scotland is, in fact, a part of Great Britain. It is governed from London but in many waysit is a separate nation. It has its own capital city, Edinburgh, its own laws and its own
stamps. It even has its own language, Gaelic, spoken now by only a few people on theislands.
There are only about five million Scots, and most of them live in the southern
half of country called ‘Lowlands’, where the major cities are situated.
But most holiday visitors to Scotland go to the Highlands because of the highmountains and deep valleys, clean rivers and cold ‘lochs’. The Highlands are home to
many rare birds and animals, like the golden eagle and the wildcat, which are found
nowhere else in Britain. It is a lonely, wild and empty land. Only two per cent of theBritish population live there and the population is getting smaller all the time. There is
very little work so most of the young people who are born there have to move south tofind a job. Perhaps the Highlands of Scotland will become the last great wilderness of Europe.

HOW FISH SWIM
Most fish use their side, back, and tail fins for swimming. Fins (1) … movable, fanlike
parts. A fish (18) … through the water by swinging its tail fins back and forth. A fish uses
(19) ... other fins to steer (20) ... to stop. Sometimes the other fins also help it go fastthrough the water.
Most fishes have bodies shaped like a torpedo. Their bodies are pointed at the head and
at the tail. This streamlined body helps fish speed through water. Sailfish can swim as (21)… as 70 miles per hour (110 kilometers per hour).
(22) … fish have unusual shapes. Rays have flat, disc-shaped bodies. Large fins like

An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when one celestial object moves into
the shadow of another. The term is most often used to describe either a solar eclipse ,
when the Moon's shadow crosses the Earth's surface, or a lunar eclipse , when the Moonmoves into the shadow of Earth
Eclipses may occur when the Earth and Moon are aligned with the Sun , and the
shadow of one body cast by the Sun falls on the other. So at New Moon (or rather Dark
Moon ), when the Moon is in conjunction with the Sun, the Moon may pass in front of theSun as seen from a narrow region on the surface of the Earth and cause a solar eclipse.
At Full Moon , when the Moon is in opposition to the Sun, the Moon may pass through
the shadow of the Earth, and a lunar eclipse is visible from the night half of the Earth An eclipse does not happen at every New or Full Moon, because the plane of the orbit
of the Moon around the Earth is tilted with respect to the plane of the orbit of the Earth
around the Sun, so as seen from the Earth, when the Moon is nearest to the Sun (NewMoon) or at largest distance (Full Moon), the three bodies usually are not exactly on the
same line

Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants, and are known for their rolein pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. There are nearly 20,000 known
species of bees in nine recognized families though many are undescribed and the actual
number is probably higher. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, in every
habitat on the planet that contains insect-pollinated flowering plants.Bees have a long proboscis (a complex "tongue") that enables them to obtain the
nectar from flowers. They have antennae almost universally made up of 13 segments in
males and 12 in females, as is typical for the super family. Bees all have two pairs of wings, the hind pair being the smaller of the two; in a very few species, one sex or caste
has relatively short wings that make flight difficult or impossible, but none are wingless.
The smallest bee is Trigona minima, a stingless bee whose workers are about 2.1 mm(5/64") long. The largest bee in the world is Megachile pluto, a leafcutter bee whose
females can attain a length of 39 mm (1.5"). Members of the family Halictidae, or sweat

A cactus (plural: cacti ) is any member of the plant family Cactaceae, native to theAmericas. They are often used as ornamental plants, but some are also crop plants. Cacti aregrown for protection of property from wild animals, as well as many other uses.
Cacti are part of the plant order Caryophyllales, which also include members like beets, gypsophila, spinach, amaranth, tumbleweeds, carnations, rhubarb, buckwheat, plumbago, bougainvillea, chickweed and knotgrass.
Cacti are unusual and distinctive plants, which are adapted to extremely arid and hotenvironments, showing a wide range of anatomical and physiological features which conservewater. Their stems have adapted to become photosynthetic and succulent, while the leaveshave become the spines for which cacti are well known.
Cacti come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. The tallest is Pachycereus pringlei , witha maximum recorded height of 19.2 m, and the smallest is Blossfeldia liliputiana, only about1 cm in diameter at maturity. Cactus flowers are large, and like the spines and branches arisefrom areoles. Many cactus species are night blooming, as they are pollinated by nocturnal insects or small animals, principally moths and bats. Cacti range in size from small andglobular to tall and columnar.

The piano is a musical instrument which is played by means of a keyboard. Widelyused in Western music for solo performances (176), ensemble use, chamber music, andaccompaniment, the piano is also very popular as an aid to composing and rehearsal.Pressing a key on the piano's keyboard causes a felt covered hammer to strike (177) steel strings. The hammers rebound, allowing the strings to continue vibrating at their resonant
(178) frequency. These vibrations are transmitted through a bridge to a sounding board thatcouples the acoustic energy to the air so that it can be heard as sound.
