FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Independent Public School 2019
Today and Friday Scott Gladman, Council Chair and I will be attend-
ing the IPS launch at Tradewinds in Fremantle. There will be a series
of seminars and an opportunity to network with other school. The
school will be presented with a certificate declaring Mount Claremont
Primary School as an Independent Public School.
Thank you, Scott for giving up your valuable time for the benefit of the
school.
Mount Claremont Oval
The proposal by the Westside Wolves Hockey Club to build an astro
turf pitch and clubrooms on the Mount Claremont Oval has ignited a
passionate debate. The School Council Chair, Scott Gladman and I
acknowledge the emails from parents in relation to this matter.
As Principal, the priority is educating students and to provide a range
of learning experiences both on and off the school site.
As a local government issue and as parents / rate payers you can
have your say by going to: https://yourvoice.nedlands.wa.gov.au/mt-

Room 3 Assembly
Congratulation to the Year 3/4, Room 3 for an outstanding class as-
sembly.
“The History of Lice”. They confidently performed their acts, songs
and jokes. The laughs were thick and fast!
George dressed as a female nurse in his Grandmother’s original uni-
form (1940-50’s) chasing Campbell with a massive ‘nit comb’ had us
all in stiches.
Taylor Swift’s song “Shake it off” now has a new meaning to us all!

Japanese Visitors
Last week special visitors from Takinoya Elementary School in Hyogo City visited the school.
It was a privilege for staff and students to share experiences of educational practice in Australia and Ja-pan.
The Students at Takinoya Elementary spend 15 minutes a day cleaning the school. They do not employ cleaners. The school has a focus on learning through nature.
Our guests were amazed at the amount of space our students had to play and students eat outside. However as educators we had similar conversations regarding educational practice and the health and wellbeing of students.
They truly enjoyed the Mount Claremont Primary School experience.

Year 4/5 Assembly
In Year 4/5 HASS we studied the first fleet and early colonies of Australia, so we decided to take a slightly different approach to share some of what we have learnt in our recent assembly.
We prepared a number of skits that showed lice through the ages. First we visited early cave men who shared their rich source of protein with the audience. Then we travelled through time to visit a Georgian Lice Race, “Haven’t Washed for Weeks” was the runaway champion! Next, we met two lice who were enjoying their ‘cruise’ upon the Scarborough, making their way to Australia with the first fleet. We then jumped to 1914 when lice were infesting the trenches and soldiers could not stop scratching. This led us to the 1970’s when the dreaded Nit Nurse was spreading fear throughout eve-ry school. Finally we met a modern mother shamed by her child’s head pets. The production was brought to a close with a very ‘itchy’ rendition of Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it Off’.
The whole class put on a fantastic performance with plenty of laughs for students and adults alike. The matron chase around the undercover area ensured plenty of giggles. The students had a brilliant time performing, with all students showing high levels of confidence.
They should all be very proud about what they achieved.

Visual Arts
On Thursday, 15th November, there will be an exhibition of students' artwork from this year. The exhibi-tion will be held in the school library from 3:10 pm to 4:30 pm. Students will select one piece of work from their art portfolio that they consider to be their best for the exhibition. Artworks will include draw-ings, paintings, collages, clay sculptures and Perth Royal Show entries (which were a little difficult to find at the Show) Pre Primary and Year 1 students will be assisted with their selection.
I am looking forward to meeting parents, grandparents and students in the library after school on 15th November. The exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the wonderful artwork that students have been busy creating this year.

Music Count Us In
Today at 9.30 am, more than half a million students from over 3,000 schools from all over Australia sang the same song at the same time called “One Song” the song was live steamed from Hobart. We were also entertained by the School Choir and the Year 6, Brass group and the Year 5, Clarinet group. Thank you to Josephine , Nadine and Mrs Buchanan for leading the school and informing us all about Music Count Us In 2018.

Swimming Certificates
Swimming lessons finish this week and students will be given their certificates on Thursday/
Friday. Please file these certificates safely so that when completing enrolment information
for swimming lessons next year you know what stage your child is in and this will avoid any
confusion with which stage students should go into.
Signing In and Out Students
Just a reminder that when arriving late or taking your child out of school you must report to the
front office to complete the sign in form and then take the yellow form to you child’s teacher.
