Perry Center forHemispheric Defense Studies at the National Defense University where shefocusesonUSnationalsecurity, illicitnetworks, transnationalorganizedcrime,counterterrorism and threat finance issues in the Americas. As a former USdiplomat,internationalbankerwithGoldmanSachs,UScounterterrorismofficialand professor of international security affairs at the National Defense,Georgetown, George Washington and Joint Special Operations Universities,Professor Realuyo has over two decades of international experience in the

public, private, and academic sectors. She speaks regularly in English and Spanish on "Managing USNationalSecurity in21stCentury,” “The3R’s:Responding toRiskwithResourcefulness,” “Following theMoney Trail to Combat Terrorism, Crime, and Corruption” and "Combating the Convergence of IllicitNetworks in an Age of Globalization." Professor Realuyo is a regular commentator in the internationalmedia,includingCNNenEspañol,DeutscheWelle,ForeignPolicy,Reuters,CipherBriefandUnivisionandhastestifiedbeforeCongressonnationalsecurity,terrorismandcrimeissues.Throughouthercareer,ProfessorRealuyohasbeenatrustedstrategicadvisortothemostseniorleadersinUSgovernment,military,businessandacademiccirclesoninternationalissues.Asaprofessorofnationalsecurityat theNationalDefenseUniversitysince2007,shehaseducatedtopUSandforeignmilitaryandcivilian leaders. From 2002-2006, Professor Realuyo served as the State Department Director ofCounterterrorism Finance Programs in the US Secretary of State's Office of the Coordinator forCounterterrorism in Washington, DC. In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, she returned togovernmentservicetoapplyherinternationalbankingskillstothefinancialfrontofthewaronterror.Sheco-chaired theTerroristFinancingWorkingGroupandmanagedamulti-milliondollar foreignassistanceprogram to safeguard financial systems against terrorist financing. Under her stewardship, the US.delivered training and technical assistance to over 20 countries across four continents (includingAfghanistan,Indonesia,Iraq,PakistanandSaudiArabia,forover1800foreigncounterparts,andherteamreceived an "A-" from the 9/11 Commission for their efforts to combat terrorist financing. Prior toreturning to Washington, Professor Realuyo was a private banker in London with Goldman SachsInternational.Previously,shehadadistinguishedcareerasaUSForeignServiceOfficerassignedtoMadrid,Panama and the US Mission to NATO, Brussels. In Washington, she served at the highest levels ofgovernment,intheStateDepartmentOperationsCenter,NationalSecurityCouncil'sWhiteHouseSituationRoomandasSpecialAssistanttotheSecretaryofState.Professor Realuyo is a graduate of the Harvard Business School, Johns Hopkins University School ofAdvanced International Studies (SAIS), Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and holds acertificatefroml'Institutd'EtudesPolitiques(SciencesPo)inParis,France.SheisamemberoftheCouncilon Foreign Relations, International Institute for Strategic Studies andWomen in International Security.ProfessorRealuyohastraveledtoover70countriesandspeaksEnglish,French,andSpanishfluently,andisconversantinItalian,German,FilipinoandArabic.
