We are analysing the scene on the train from ‘Slum dog Millionaire”
Is this a whole narrative, a section or an enigma?
Section section
• This is only 2 minutes scene from the film
• Enigma present with non linear narrative (the film goes backwards in time)
Beginning scene where Jamal and Salim are on the train and trying to steal food from some of the passengers.
Because the chronological end is the beginning of the film this raises questions to the audience: -as to why their on the train -what are they running away from.
If you are looking at a section of a narrative, what function does this section have for the narrative? (Think about the whole)
Jamal is getting
Lenny waking up (going back in time before murder)
Works with Teddy to try to find killer
He doesn’t trust Teddy
Works with girl to find killer – he doesn’t remember
……….
……….
……….
Just after Lenny killed wrong guy
Teddy knows he is on right trackLenny knows
Teddy is dishonest and is killer but needs to prove itAudience can make sense of story and all enigmas are answered
The function of the END scene is to answer all enigma's that were answered at the: -beginning (which is who did he kill)
-through the film (why did he kill him and how did he find him)
Does the film follow the conventional narrative (3 part)? Explain yes or now
