NY Route 347 – Design Build “The Threads that Weave”
Concepts in the Vision Plan include: Sustainability Smart Growth Context Sensitive Solutions Environmental Stewardship Walkability Livability GreenLITES
16
NY Route 347 – Design Build GreenLITES – Evergreen Certification
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is committed to improving the quality of our transportation infrastructure through the use of best practices that minimize impacts to the environment.
NYSDOT implemented “GreenLITES” (Leadership In Transportation and Environmental Sustainability), a project rating program recognizing four levels of successfully attaining these goals in our projects.
Route 347 will continue to implement as many of these best practices as possible achieving the
highest level of certification… …Evergreen.
17
NY Route 347 – Design Build Making Route 347 More “Bicycle & Pedestrian Friendly” & Multimodal
Improving Bicycle & Pedestrian Facilities Constructing a Shared-Use Path Adding Sidewalks Reducing Crossing Distances Extending Crossing Times at Crosswalks Creating “Greenway Stops” along the proposed shared-use path Enhancing Visibility & Motorist Cues at High Pedestrian Areas ie. Senior “Activity Centers”, Schools, etc
Improving Connections to Places of Interest, Community Centers, & Transit Identifying Destinations Improving Access to Community Centers & Parks Enhancing Bus Stops
18
NY Route 347 – Design Build “Enhancing the Plan”
Recognizing Opportunities for Improving & Expanding Non-Motorized Transportation
Alternatives Improving & Expanding Access to Mass Transit &
Connections Conserving Energy Improving & Preserving Quality of Life, Aesthetics, & the
Environment Stimulating the Economy
Developing a Corridor Theme “ Parks to Ports Greenway ”
Identifying & Highlighting Environmental Assets Greenway Stops, Interpretive Signs, Info. Kiosks
Utilizing Traffic Calming Features Narrowing Lane Widths Narrowing Shoulders Visually Narrowing by Adding Vertical Elements ie. Street
Trees, Decorative Street Lighting, and Aesthetically Enhanced Raised Planted Medians
Constructing a Buffer between Multi-Use Path and Shoulder Reducing the Posted Speed
