Jeremiah went down to the potter’s house where

the potter was working. Whenever the vessel he

was making came out wrong, he would start

afresh

and work it into another vessel, as potters do.

Then God said to Jeremiah,

‘My beloved,

can I not do to you what the potter does?

As clay is in the potter’s hands

so you, my Beloved are in mine.’

As with Jeremiah,

Mary MacKillop

was willing

to give herself

to the Potter God.

Mary lived the mystery of life,

pain,

uncertainty,

suffering,

joy,

all in radical dependence

on the Potter God.

In January 1899

a special Chapter

was held as a result

of the death

of Mother Bernard.

Mary was facing election again

as leader of the congregation.

Despite having endured

many difficult years

Mary was still able to say:

“I do want with all my heart

to be what God

wants me to be.”
