A Note From The Pastor… This weekend we will have our Annual Second Collec"on,
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development [CCHD].
The CCHD is the na"onal an"-poverty program of the U.S.
Catholic Bishops. Please consider giving to help others in
need.
This week we will be celebra"ng Thanksgiving, a day to
give thanks to God for the many blessings He has given us.
Every year on this day, I’m especially grateful for the three
“Fs”: Faith, Family, and Friends. This week is a "me to
cul"vate and renew the gra"tude we should have for all
that God has done for us.
Our Lady of Humility has established a foreign mission to
help Fr. Charles’ Diocese fund the Forma"on and Educa"on of Seminarians preparing to
be Priests for The Kasana-Luwerro Diocese in Uganda. Fr. Charles is part of the faculty
there, and also serves as the Chaplain of Sports. The cost to form a Seminarian for one
year is $300 for tui"on, housing, and food. This is a bargain by USA standards, but is a
fortune in Uganda. We will be holding appeals twice a year. You may contribute to the
fund for “Those In Greatest Need,” or sponsor a Seminarian ($600/Year, 4 Year
Commitment). Checks are wri#en to “Our Lady of Humility” (this money will be on your
Year-End Tax Statement from Our Lady of Humility, and is tax deduc"ble). Twice a year,
Our Lady of Humility will send a check to the Chicago Archdiocese Mission Office who
will transfer the funds electronically to the Kasana-Luwerro Diocese in Uganda. There
will be special envelopes at the Church doors. Please use these so that the money will
not be misdirected. These special envelopes can be put in the collec"on basket, or
delivered to the Rectory. For addi"onal informa"on, contact: Linda Bugos-Noble
(bugosnoble@gmail.com), or Gloria Askew (gloriaaskew@comcast.net). Please see
next week’s bulle"n for addi"onal informa"on.
This weekend we have the Rite of Enrollment for our students preparing for
Confirma"on at the 5PM Mass on Saturday, and at the 9AM and 11AM Masses on
Sunday. In addi"on, at the 11AM Mass, we will have the Rite of Acceptance for our
RCIA Candidates. Please keep our Confirma"on Students and RCIA Candidates in your
prayers as they con"nue to prepare.
God Bless,
Fr. Paul

RCIA – Rite Of Acceptance Today at the 11AM Mass, the ini"al inquiry
(pre-catechumenate) period for our Parish’s group of
inquirers will be moving into the second stage, with
our first opportunity for unbap"zed inquirers to go
through the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens, and
bap"zed inquirers to go through the Rite of Welcoming. The first phase of
the journey of ini"a"on has been a "me for seekers to hear the mystery of
Christ proclaimed. The inquirers have consciously and freely sought the
living God, and entered the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit
opens their hearts.
We ask you to please pray for the inquirers as they con"nue their
conversion journey, and for our RCIA process as we assist them in moving
toward a closer rela"onship with God. Your prayers are cri"cal to the
success of the program. We will con"nue to keep you informed of the
ini"a"on process, and progress of those considering joining the Church.
We invite you to take an ac"ve role in welcoming our soon-to-be
Catechumens and Candidates, and to be models of faith and Chris"an
charity for them.
Therefore, it is with great joy that we welcome the following men and
women who will take this step today, and we promise them our prayers,
support, and encouragement in the months ahead:

Eucharis#c Adora#on –
Why Exposi"on Of The Blessed Sacrament? If we can adore the Eucharis!c presence of Christ when reposed
in a tabernacle, why do we then need to expose the Blessed Sacrament on
an altar? It is not essen"al for exposi"on to take place to have Eucharis"c
Adora"on, yet people report experiencing a greater sense of in"macy
with Jesus, and a#en"veness of mind and heart to prayer when they are
able to actually “see” our Eucharis"c Lord. Moreover, according to
Church regula"ons, exposing the Blessed Sacrament for a period of "me
requires the presence of a sufficient number of people to be there, and
therefore, fosters the commitment needed to establish and sustain a
meaningful Parish Eucharis"c Adora"on Program. But the best reason for
having exposi"on of the Blessed Sacrament, is simply that God wills it.
During His Eucharis"c discourse, Jesus made this unmistakably clear:
“Indeed, this is the will of My Heavenly Father, that everyone who looks
upon the Son, and believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise
up on the last day.” (–John 6:40).
Do something special this Fall, please consider coming to Eucharis"c
Adora"on on Thursdays at 1PM, where you will have an opportunity to
spend "me with the Lord Jesus, in the Blessed Sacrament each week
where we can ASK HIM anything. Come, bring your whole family, spend
some "me with the Lord, and receive His blessings! He is wai"ng for you!

Ask A Priest
Q: As He was dying on the Cross, Jesus cried out, “My God, My God, why have You abandoned Me?”
(–Mark 15:34). How does the Church interpret this? Does it mean that Jesus lost hope that the Father
was with Him?
A: It always makes me nervous to answer ques"ons about biblical interpreta"on; no ma#er what I say, it seems as
though there is always someone who wants to disagree with me, and usually in a very vocal manner! With that
said, let me try my best. This is one of the most fascina"ng passages from the Gospel narra"ve. At the moment
before His death, Christ u#ers this line about abandonment, a confusing statement that was not even understood
by the scribes and Pharisees standing around the cross. Despite causing this ini"al confusion, this quote reveals so
much about the person of Jesus, a man who has both a Divine and a Human nature. How we interpret this line,
however, reveals much more about us… about whether we place the emphasis and priority on Christ’s divinity or on
His humanity.
For the individual who prefers to focus on Christ’s divinity, the answer is quite simple; Jesus is merely quo"ng
scripture, namely Psalm 22. If you are not familiar with this par"cular passage, I suggest you get your Bible out and
read through the Psalm right now! As you can see, the Psalm begins with the words that Jesus spoke on the Cross.
The middle sec"on prophesies about the various ordeals that the Christ was to suffer (they tear holes in My hands
and feet, I can number all My bones), and the Psalm ends with trust in God, and praise for all that God has done.
So, if we interpret Christ’s words on the cross to be merely a quote of Scripture, there is no contradic"on with His
divinity. Jesus is in complete control, He has no doubts or fears, and He is fully aware of God’s presence and ac"on
in His life.
Needless to say, I don’t like that method of interpreta"on! Pu?ng so much emphasis on Christ’s divinity, especially
at the hour of His death, seems to take away from the great gi- of the Incarna"on. Jesus became a man so that He
might redeem all mankind; if at the moment of this redemp!on, His humanity is swallowed up by His divinity, then
what is the point of taking on flesh and becoming like us?!
In my research, the Church fathers all tend to agree that the emphasis should be on Christ’s humanity. St. Ambrose
says that it is Christ’s human weakness that doubts, that feels distress. St. Augus"ne says that Christ takes on our
infirmi"es, and embraces our weakness by making the words of the Psalmist His own. Throughout the centuries,
the Church has read this passage as Christ, in His human frailty, truly enduring the pain, isola"on, and doubt
associated with human suffering.
Here is the way I interpret the passage. God became man so that He might save us all. At every stage of His life,
Jesus kept going deeper and deeper into the human condi"on, so that He might redeem everyone, even those who
are the farthest away from God. By being born as a poor person, Christ is able to save the ‘regular’ folks, not just
the super-rich. By interac"ng with pros"tutes and tax collectors, Christ is able to save the sinners, not just the
righteous. By embracing execu"on as a criminal, Christ is able to save those despised by society, not just the
law-abiding ci"zens.
And which group should we consider the farthest away from God? It’s the atheists and agnos"cs; those that don’t
believe in God, or don’t want anything to do with Him. In His u#erance, “My God, My God, why have You
abandoned Me?” Jesus endures the ul"mate separa"on from His Father; He becomes an atheist! He does this so
that He might redeem everyone. You think that you don’t deserve God’s love, Mr. Atheist? You think that there is
no way God can forgive you or love you? Well, guess what; Jesus suffered that ul"mate abandonment as well,
specifically so that He might redeem you! There is nowhere that you can run to, nowhere you can hide, where the
grace of God cannot find you, because Jesus has been there before.
As we prepare for the celebra"on of Christmas, let us remember the true miracle of the season. Christ takes on
human nature, so that He might save and redeem all of mankind. In order to accomplish this, He becomes like us in
all things, save sin. Let us allow Christ to reach out and grab us, no ma#er how far we may be separated from Him,
and bring us back into rela"onship with our Heavenly Father.
Peace,
Fr. Mike
