MUMBAI, MARCH 26 /--/ She is one of the top stars inthe Hindi film industry and now Katrina Kaif is planningto share her journey, which was full of ups and downs, inthe form a book. The actor, who made her Bollywood debutwith 2003 film "Boom" was initially criticised for heracting abilities and dancing skills, but she has come a longway. When asked how she handled herself in an industrywhich was alien to her, Katrina said she is saving theanswer for now. "I educated myself (about the industry)but I might write a book (on it), so I won't waste the answernow. I seriously might write a book," she told PTI. Thoughthe actor has had some of the biggest blockbusters to hercredit, most recently being "Tiger Zinda Hai", she has alsoseen low phases in her career, spanning nearly 15 years.Katrina, however, considers the setbacks as the steppingstones to her success. "You need to have a balancedattitude to life, need to accept that failures, hardships andhard times -- for me definitely -- they are the biggestteachers. They (failures) are the biggest steps. Once youget there, then you reach higher. You need them. Hardshipand failures taught me to evolve and reach the next step,"she said. "I am constantly trying to educate myself byreading about peoples' journeys, taking care of my mindand making sure I am evolving as a person and not justaccepting whatever thoughts come to my mind," sheadded. Katrina said she never had a plan B for her careeras she always dreamt of being a movie star. "There was noback-up plan. Having a plan B is like accepting failure. Theactor said when she was 8 years old, her father left hermother Denise to raise Chrissy and her two elder siblings -- Monica and Philip. Her mother had another baby with aboyfriend before she met their future stepfather, Trigger."I'm a tough cookie. But it's one of those things thatattempts to break your spirit" Metz told People magazine.

The actor said while her stepfather loved hisbiological children, he was offended by the way shelooked."My mom married Trigger at the courthouse. Soonshe was pregnant again, with another girl, Abigail.Trigger loved his two biological children, and was evenwelcoming to Morgana. Me, not so much. My mother wasalways at work, so she didn't see how he treated me. "Mybody seemed to offend him, but he couldn't help but stare, especially when I was eating. He joked about putting alock on the refrigerator. We had lived with a lack of foodfor so long that when it was there, I felt like I had to eat itbefore it disappeared. Food was my only happiness," shewrites in the book.

Scared of her stepfather's scrutiny of her food, theactor said she started to hide what she ate. "And so, I beganto hide my eating. I'd get up in the middle of the night andeat. I'd sneak food to eat in the bathroom. Cookies, chips.Things I could eat as fast as possible to avoid detection.Things that would give me the brief bliss of numbness. "Idon't remember why Trigger hit me the first time. Henever punched my face. Just my body, the thing thatoffended him so much. He shoved me, slapped me,punched my arm. He would hit me if he thought I lookedat him wrong. I remember being on the kitchen floor afterhe knocked me over, and I was begging to know what I did.He just shoved me hard with his foot." Metz said as sheentered her teens, the abuse became worse and herstepfather would often ask her to weigh herself and thenridicule her. "When I was fourteen, Trigger beganweighing me. He'd get the scale from the bathroom andclang it hard on the kitchen floor. 'Well, get on the damnthing!' Trigger would yell. 'This is what you need to know'."He sat in a chair next to the scale as I got on. Good Godalmighty!' he yelled every single time. The number thenwas about 140 or 130. Most of my friends weighed aboutninety pounds. 'Why are you getting fatter?' he demanded.I look at pictures of me from that time, and I would be sofine with being that size now. But I thought I was gigantic."The actor said her beating had escalated by that time andonce she thought "if I had a gun, I thought, I would shootyou." Metz said she felt conflicted about hating herstepfather as she really loved him. "Afterward, I was soupset with myself. How could I think that about thisperson I loved so much? Because I really did love him. This man did more for me than my father ever did. He wassmart, and I was allowed to quietly join him in watchingthe Ken Burns Civil War documentaries on television. Iclung to (it) because I needed to figure out why this personcould do right by me as a provider, but be unable to loveme." (PTI)
