sayings

this is a book of sayings which have been said to

me or heard by me at some point in my life - some more

often than others.

i just wanted to pass them on to jog memories or even

create new ones.

I'VE HEARD THIS SAYING A FAIR FEW TIMES, & IT’S ALWAYS FROM MY MOTHER. USUALLY IT WILL BE IN RESPONSE TO ME FRETTING ABOUT WHAT I SHOULD DO WITH MY LIFE; SHOULD I GO BACK TO UNI? SHOULD I BUY THOSE EXPENSIVE BOOTS? (WHICH I’M CONVINCED GOT ME INTO UNIVERSITY) SHOULD

I STAY AN EXTRA DAY AT HOME, BECAUSE THE TRAIN TAKES 23 MINUTES LONGER TODAY THAN IT DOES TOMORROW? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH MY LIFE? & 9/10 THE RESPONSE IS THIS: “THE WORLD’S YOUR LOBSTER”. OR ESSENTIALLY “YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT - THE WORLD IS YOURS.”

THIS SAYING HAS INSPIRED ME TO DO MANY THINGS - & SO I WANTED TO PASS IT ON.

THIS ISN’T TECHNICALLY A SAYING - ALTHOUGH I DO HEAR

IT BEING SAID QUITE A LOT, THEREFORE IT’S A SAYING TO ME. EVERY TIME SOMEONE EXCLAIMS, “GOOD GOD LOOK AT MY MUFFIN TOP!” I CAN PICTURE THIS IMAGE

EVERY SINGLE TIME.

THE AMOUNT OF TIMES I USED TO HEAR THIS AS A

CHILD... I’D BE A MILLIONAIRE IF I GOT A PENNY EVERY

TIME I HEARD IT. MY MUM ALWAYS USED TO SAY IT TO ME WHENEVER I PULLED A RIDICULOUS FACE. I STILL

PULL RIDICULOUS FACES - & I’M STILL WAITING FOR THE

WIND TO BLOW.

AGAIN, ANOTHER SAYING FROM MY MUM; THIS SORT OF FITS IN WITH “THE WORLD’S YOUR LOBSTER” PHILOSOPHY - LIFE’S TOO SHORT SO LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULL. DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, GO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, LIVE HOW YOU WANT TO LIVE. THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST MANTRAS IN MY LIFE & HELPS ME MAKE SOME OF THE MORE IMPORTANT DECISIONS.

This is actually a very useful saying - one not often heard, but not many of these are

your average mottos. It is to do with cooking (obviously) & means that anything which

grows beneath the soil, ie potatoes, carrots, sausages, you should bring the water up to

the boil - not add boiling water to them. This comes courtesy of a chef, who knows a lot

more about cooking than I do...

*made that up.

In all honesty I haven’t heard this saying too much - although whenever I’m having a bad day this saying usually springs to mind, & helps me get through.

My Mum & I always joke that she’s an old bag - obviously not what’s depicted below, but this is somewhat more complimentary...

this isn’t exactly a personal saying, but everytime i hear “skinny cow” I always envision this. I thought I’d include this as

it is my sense of humour - i love a good pun me.

My Grangran always tells me this whenever i shudder at a graveyard or a zombie film. and it’s very true, the dead won’t hurt you - unless there’s a zombie apocalypse...

This is essentially the same as the

“Skinny Cow” image - I can’t help but

see this in my head whenever someone

says this.

I have heard this saying so many times - & most of the time it is aimed at me. usually it’ll be when i’m still in bed & i’m meant to be at an important meeting (or something), so my mum comes in & yells at me to “get up” & “you’ll be late for your own funeral.” so i have fond memories with this & have actually grown quite attached to this saying.
