Plagiarism Check Procedures

1. Log into the DSS Canvas course and click on Assignments (https://nsu.instructure.com/courses/2382887/assignments)

2. Upload your Proposal and/or Final Applied Dissertation into the appropriate Assignment area.

3. Open the originality report by clicking on the % (next to the colored square).

4. If your document has already been submitted either by you or your chair the similarity % could be very high. Don’t be alarmed; it just means

turnitin is matching it to a previous submission. In this case, please send an email to Dr Reeves, jennreev@nova.edu, to exclude sources (NOTE:

Students nor chairs have the capability to exclude any sources). Please make sure to include the following information in your email: Name, title

of document, date of submission, exact assignment area it was submitted to, and % (for ease of locating in turnitin).

5. Dr Reeves will let you know once the sources have been excluded so you can view the revised report (in Canvas).

6. Review the entire document for instances of similarity. Note, technical terminology, citations, template verbiage, etc. will all be highlighted;

this is OK!

But entire sentences and worse, entire paragraphs are not! This is plagiarism; you need to paraphrase!

7. Once all areas of concern have been addressed, reupload under one of the revision tabs and download the originality report by clicking on the

download button. In the popup box select Current View. Send the originality report to your chair via a message in ADRIANA.

8. Once the chair feels any/all areas of concern have been addressed then upload the revised Proposal (if applicable) and the originality report

into the Proposal/Final AD Committee Chair Approval tab.
