Students may elect to do ONE TAFE course as part of the six subjects they choose.
TAFE Courses Yr 11 2016 At the moment TAFE funding for Year 11 2016
courses is being reviewed.
All students will select 6 subjects at Port Hacking HS.
Those who wish to do a TAFE course will express their interest.
If the TAFE course runs in Year 11 2016 then students will be allowed to enrol.

Extension Maths – 1 unit Extension English – 1 unit
In Year 11 students need to study 6 2 unit courses for a total of 12 units.
Some students will study more than 12 because they are doing Extension Maths and/or Extension English.
In Year 12 the minimum number of units is 10.
This equates to 5 subjects.
Again, students can study 12 or more.
Both the Preliminary and HSC Courses must include:
• At least 6 units of Board Developed Courses, including at least 2 units of English (For the purpose of the HSC, CEC English Studies is included here.)
• At least 3 courses of 2 units value or greater
• At least 4 subjects (including English)
• At most, 6 units of courses in Science can count towards HSC eligibility
• These restrictions are coded into Edval.
Selecting Subjects
All students in year 10 will receive an email tomorrow morning.
They will need to go to their school portal and access their school email.
This email will give them a unique code to access Edval.

Students have until 11pm on Monday 10th August 2015 to complete this form.
They need to pick 6 2 unit subjects.
If a student wishes to study an Extension subject, this must be approved by the relevant Head Teacher.
They need to pick 5 reserve subjects.
Selecting subjects If a student wishes to study a TAFE subject in
2016, there is room on the print out sheet to identify the TAFE subject.
Parents/ caregivers also need to sign the form.
Open High School Students can study a subject (eg a
Language) only with the Principal’s permission.
What are good reasons for choosing a subject.
You like to do it (which generally means that you are good at it).
You have an interest and ability in the subject.
For a future career – but do you know what you want to do?
What are the wrong reasons for choosing a subject.
All of your friends are doing it. Your favourite teacher might be teaching it. Choosing a subject to help create a class and
then go to another subject so that your friends are happy.
Your parents want you to do it. You want free periods.
