• Obtain a copy of the current rules!– Canadian Rule Book for Touch Football 2001-03– Case book (1998-99)– Colloquial Rules to the HTFL
• Rosters/ Eligible players/ 7 to start
• 5 plays vs. 3 minute rule
• Overtime
• Multiple Objectionable Conducts
Equipment• Uniform/Sweater• 3 whistles and flags• 3 beanbags
– (two red and one yellow)
• Scorepad and pen• 14 pilons• Watch with countdown timer• Triplicate roster sheet• Rule book!

Muf Muffed Onside Pass: The ball is a loose ball and may be picked up by Team A. If the pass strikes the ground before the Team A receiver the ball is dead. (16.5.1)
Extended Ball: The ball is considered to be the most forward point of the ball carrier’s torso at the instant the touch is made. Ball extension is a FLAG PLAY. (10.12.1)
Time Outs: Use of a time out to check the proper application of a rule is only charged as a team time out if the rule was properly applied. The team will receive a 10 yard delay-of-game penalty. If the rule was not properly applied, the Referee will correct the application & the time out is charged as an Official’s Time Out. (11.3.4) Deliberately Grounding the Ball: The down or convert attempt is not repeated. Ball spotted at point of release by the passer. (24.3.3) Conduct Fouls: A personal or major foul may be applied as a live or dead ball foul at the option of the non-offending team when a player is attempting to: a) pass b) punt c) catch the ball in the target area or d) recover a muffed ball. Conditioning/Appearance
• Good positioning is key to make good calls.– Peak Physical Conditioning is a must!– A good ref is alert and surveys the entire scene.

• Be ready 15 minutes before the game.– Set cones/ inspect field
• Ready your “crew”– Flags/ Whistles/ Jobs

• Collection of equipment– Cones/ Whistles/ Flags
• Recording the score– distribution of copies to
teams
• Recording game comments
• Calling the score to media
• Sheets are paystubs!– DON’T LOOSE THEM!
