ABSTRACT
The Online Shopping is a web based application intended for online retailers. The main
Objective of this application is to make it interactive and its ease of use. It would make
Searching, viewing and selection of a product easier. It contains a sophisticated search
Engine for users to search for products specific to their needs. The search engine
provides an easy and convenient way to search for products where a user can Search
for a product interactively and the search engine would refine the products available
based on the users input. The user can then view the complete specification of each
product. They can also view the product reviews and also write their own reviews. The
main emphasis lies in providing a user friendly search engine for effectively showing thedesired results and its drag and drop behavior.

1. Introduction1.1 GoalShopping has long been considered a recreational activity by many. Shopping
online is no exception. The goal of this application is to develop a web based
interface for online retailers. The system would be easy to use and hence make
the shopping experience pleasant for the users. The goal of this application is

Products view a complete description of the products and order the products.
A search engine that provides an easy and convenient way to search for
products specific to their needs. The search engine would list a set of productsbased on the search term and the user can further filter the list based on various
parameters.

1.2 Need of the applicationThere are large numbers of commercial Online Shopping websites offering large
number of products tailored to meet the shopping interests of large number of
customers. These online marketplaces have thousands of products listed undervarious categories.
Problem:
The basic problems with the existing systems are the non-interactive
environment they provide to the users.
The use of traditional user interfaces which make continuous post backs to the
Server; each post back makes a call to the server, gets the response and then

2. System Requirement Analysis
2.1 Information GatheringAs the goal of the application is ease of use and to provide an interactiveinterface, extensive research has been done to gain an insight into the needs
andbehaviors of various users.Users can be classified into two types based on their knowledge of the productsthat suits their needs. They can be classified as users who know about theproduct thatwould satisfy their needs and users who have to figure out the product that
would satisfytheir needs. Users who know about the product should be able to find theproduct easily
with the click of a button. Such users can search for the product by using theproductname as the search term. Users who have to figure out the product that would
satisfy their needs could use a search term to find a list of products and thenshould be able to filter the results based on various parameters like product
type, manufacturer, priceplatform supported etc.The users should be able to view the complete specification of the product and
various images at different Zoom levels.To increase the ease of use the user should be able to add a product to the
shopping cart by dragging a product and dropping it in the shopping cart. Auser shouldable to edit the contents of a shopping cart. They should be able to update thequantities of the products added to the cart and remove the products from thecart. The user should be able to remove the product from the shopping cart bydragging the product and dropping it outside the cart.The application can be made interactive by pop up messages when a product

2.2System FeasibilityThe system feasibility can be divided into the following sections:
2.2.1 Economic FeasibilityThe project is economically feasible as the only cost involved is having acomputer with the minimum requirements mentioned earlier. For the users toaccess theapplication, the only cost involved will be in getting access to the Internet.

14. Introduction to .NET frameworkThe Microsoft .NETFramework is a software framework that can be
installed on computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems.It includes a large library of coded solutions to common
programming problems and a virtual machine that manages theexecution of programs written specifically for the framework. The
.NETFramework is a key Microsoft offering and is intended to be usedby most new applications created for the Windows platform.
The framework's Base Class Library provides a large range of featuresincluding user interface, data and data access, databaseconnectivity, cryptography, web application development, numeric
algorithms, and network communications. The class library is used byprogrammers, who combine it with their own code to produceapplications.Programs written for the .NETFramework execute in softwareenvironment that manages the program's runtime requirements. Alsopart of the .NETFramework, this runtime environment is known as the
Common Language Runtime (CLR). The CLR provides theappearance of an application virtual machine so that programmersneed not consider the capabilities of the specific CPU that will
execute the program. The CLR also provides other important servicessuch as security, memory management, and exception handling.The class library and the CLR together constitute the .NETFramework.
Version 3.0 of the .NETFramework is included with Windows Server2008 and Windows Vista. The current version of the framework canalso be installed on Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003 familyof operating systems.[2] A reduced version of the .NETFramework isalso available on Windows Mobile platforms, including smart phones
as the .NET Compact Framework. Version 4.0 of the framework wasreleased as a public Beta on 20 May 2009.

people, things and events. SQL Server stores each data item in its
own fields. In SQL Server, the fields relating to a particular person,thing or event are bundled together to form a single complete unit
of data, called a record (it can also be referred to as raw or anoccurrence). Each record is made up of a number of fields. No twofields in a record can have the same field name. During an SQLServer Database design project, the analysis of your business needsidentifies all the fields or attributes of interest. If your business needs
change over time, you define any additional fields or change thedefinition of existing fields.
SQL SERVER TABLESSQL Server stores records relating to each other in a table. Differenttables arecreated for the various groups of information. Related tables aregrouped together to form a database.PRIMARY KEYEvery table in SQL Server has a field or a combination of fields that
uniquelyidentifies each record in the table. The Unique identifier is called thePrimary Key, or simply the Key. The primary key provides the means
to distinguish one record from all other in a table. It allows the userand the database system to identify, locate and refer to oneparticular record in the database.
RELATIONAL DATABASESometimes all the information of interest to a business operation canbe stored inone table. SQL Server makes it very easy to link the data in multiple
tables. Matching an employee to the department in which they
work is one example. This is what makes SQL Server a relationaldatabase management system or RDBMS. It stores data in two ormore tables and enables you to define relationships between thetable and enables you to define relationships between the tables.
FOREIGN KEYWhen a field is one table matches the primary key of another field is
referred to as a foreign key. A foreign key is a field or a group offields in one table whose values match those of the primary key of
another table.
REFERENTIAL INTEGRITYNot only does SQL Server allow you to link multiple tables, it also
maintainsconsistency between them. Ensuring that the data among relatedtables is correctly matched is referred to as maintaining referentialintegrity.
DATA ABSTRACTIONA major purpose of a database system is to provide users with anabstract view of
the data. This system hides certain details of how the data is storedand maintained. Data abstraction is divided into three levels.
Physical level: This is the lowest level of abstraction at which one

Conceptual Level: At this level of database abstraction all theattributed and what data are actually stored is described and
entries and relationship among them.View level: This is the highest level of abstraction at which onedescribes only part of the database.

required for their execution and storage. While centralizationreduces duplication, the lack of duplication requires that thedatabase be adequately backed up so that in case of failure thedata can be recovered.

Results & ChallengesThe application can be used for any Ecommerce application. It is easy to use,since ituses the GUI provided in the user dialog. User friendly screens are provided.Theapplication is easy to use and interactive making online shopping a
recreationalactivity for users. It has been thoroughly tested and implemented.
7.1 Challenges
Compatibility with browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Internet explorer etc Using a layered approach in developing the application which would make the
application maintainable.
8. ConclusionsThe Online Shopping is designed to provide a web based application thatwould make
searching, viewing and selection of a product easier. The search engine
provides an easyand convenient way to search for products where a user can Search for aproductinteractively and the search engine would refine the products available basedon theusers input. The user can then view the complete specification of eachproduct.
8.1 LimitationsThis application does not have a built in check out process. An externalcheckoutpackage has to be integrated in to this application. Also users cannot save the
shoppingcarts so that they can access later i.e. they cannot create wish lists which theycan accesslater. This application does not have features by which user can set priceranges forproducts and receive alerts once the price reaches the particular range.
8.2 Scope for Future WorkThe following things can be done in future.
The current system can be extended to allow the users to create accounts andsave products in to wish list.
The users could subscribe for price alerts which would enable them to receivemessages when price for products fall below a particular level.
The current system is confined only to the shopping cart process. It can be
extended to have an easy to use check out process. Users can have multiple shipping and billing information saved. During
checkout they can use the drag and drop feature to select shipping and billinginformation.
