Did you know that…

In 2011, on average each person in Singapore

generated approximately 1.33 tons of waste

…that 2’828’303 TONNES

of trash was WASTED in just 2011 ALONE?

Importance of recycling

• If not recycled, would either be burnt or end up in a landfill.

• In a world running out of resources, we should be using what’s left wisely, not throwing them away.

The increasing trend of recycling in Singapore is heartening, but the speed of increase is slowing down.

Objectives

•Instill green tips into young children.

•Increase the awareness of recycling in the younger population.

Methodology

• Brainstorming

- Many ideas were made

- Decided to make an interactive e-book

- Green tips were added into the

storybook

Methodology

• Writing of stories

- We wanted an interactive storybook

-Choices were added into the story, such

that the reader could decide the fate of

the characters

- We managed to think of a storyline that

may be interesting to young readers

Methodology

• Workload

- People who had more IT experience made the website

- The layout of the website was attractive

- Others wrote the stories

So, why target the children?

• Children are able to absorb information easily.

• By letting the children go green, their parents are likely to follow as well.

• If this trend continues, it would help increase the percentage of recycling.

Our product

A screenshot of how the stories look like.

Our product

•The product was made into a power point slide format.

•However, due to time constraints

•It was not placed into a web page.

Concept of story

•Based on a villain versus hero plot.

•Choices could be made by the reader to decide the fate of the hero.

•Designed to entertain young readers and allow them to pick up tips on how to go green.

•Made on a website to make assessing easier.

Information

• Green tips were placed into the entire length of the story.

• Make going green more fun and engaging

Strength of the project

• Available on the internet, allowing people to assess it anywhere, anytime.

• It would be simple if we wish to do further editing as we can assess it easily.

• Making a website is free and can be created on multiple platforms.

Weaknesses

• Time management problems

• Procrastination

• Lack of background research

• Lack of knowledge in certain areas

Acknowledgement

• Our teacher mentor, Mr Chew Zichun for guiding and leading us in our times of difficulties

• Mrs Ong Wai Lin for the inspiration
