Always united in our shared OLSH Spirit. Anne O’Loughlin Principal
Dear Family and Friends
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and for all things give thanks to God… 1 Thessalonians 5:18
These brief words of St Paul are heart words. They speak the truth of a life that is connected to God, to self and to others. As our school year for 2017 draws to a close to live as these words suggest is worth pondering – yes we give thanks to God. We hold in our hearts the year that has been, the Christmas we are about to celebrate and the new year ahead! May the blessings of this beautiful time of the year be held abundantly in each of our hearts.
Congratulations to all Regnet Christus award winners. Students were presented with their awards during the Celebration of Excellence Ceremony on Friday 24 November which was attended by the whole school community including their families.

There are a number of stories here today of OLSH girls who have worked hard to find their greatness in their learning journey. These girls have worked to develop a true growth mindset and have displayed a capacity to improve their learning, to develop their potential, to keep going back and trying despite failure, until they reach their goal and then they set another goal. The last day of school for 2017 was Friday 8 December at OLSH College Bentleigh. We
began the day celebrating Eucharist led by Father Martin Tanti sdb who delivered a
wonderful homily. During the Mass we gave thanks for the many blessings we have
received this year. Our student musicians and singers did an amazing job and all of the
girls and staff participated in true OLSH Spirit. As a College community, we presented a
large number of Christmas Hampers to St Vincent De Paul for distribution in our local
area.
Wishing each of you the true gift of Christmas - a deep sense that God is with us.
Bianca Labagnara’s grandfather, Luigi Labagnara.

All Year 11 students took part in a full day of Road Safety Education held at the
Greyhound Function Centre in Springvale on 27 November. This program is attended by
the Year 11 students annually and equips young people with the knowledge to stay safe
on our roads. There were six interactive sessions addressing crucial aspects of
travelling safely and supporting government road safety measures.
The theme for this year was “It’s my life and my choices.”
Students participated in workshops and demonstrations to devise strategies focussed
on:
Key government ‘big five’ road safety issues of speeding, alcohol & drugs,
fatigue, distraction and wearing seat belts
The social responsibility aspect of being a better driver or passenger
Lowering personal risks by making better decisions.
Here are some interesting reflections from students:
“17 hours of being awake equates to 0.05 BAC” – Kiara Gwynne
“One should be driving by themselves for at least 12months before over-taking vehicles
on a large road” – Charli Yanko
“Speeding does not save time” – Jazmine Oakley
“Risks increase peer passengers” – Allannah Burt
