Background and Training Survey Objectives

227 respondents replied to 14 questions in a survey sent out to managers, payroll coordinators and time keepers in May 2014.

The Objectives were:

• Determine how familiar distributed users are with BUworks Help documentation

• Review what users like and dislike about the BUworks documentation

• Ascertain what training method would work best for BUworks users

What is BUworks?

BUworks is Boston University’s implementation of SAP, which provides the integrated administrative tools and processes needed to support different business functions at the university.

Business Functions include:1.Human Capital Management (HCM) (OM, PA & Payroll)2.Finance and Accounting3.Supplier Relationship Management4.Business Warehouse Reporting

Conclusion• Majority of the user community knows the existence of online

documentation for BUworks • They find the documentation is somewhat effective• Quick Reference Guides and Process Guides are the popular

tools currently available• Step by Step Instructions and face-to-face training are the

preferred methods of training

Next Steps ?• Creation of a HCM Training page that gives users easy access to step by

step instructions http://www.bu.edu/buworks/hcm-training/• Creation of training environment so users can practice data-entry on the

OM & PA forms• Event-based/Scenario-based face-to-face group training sessions at

Charles River and Medical School campuses• Updates to online documentation especially Quick Reference

Guides(QRGs) to ensure they are accurate• Send out a training newsletter each month with a Training Calendar• “Lync” meetings to help individual users (ability to share desktop)• Monthly face-to-face training. June Trainings: Nakisa Org Chart & Hiring forms (June 22)
