4 different definitions and compare/contrast them.
! Write down your own definition that everyone in the group agrees with, using the other definitions you found. It needs to be clear and understandable.
! You will read your definition to the class. ! You will be using the computer for your
research.
Self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself as a person and how much you value yourself. The way we feel about ourselves has a huge affect on the way we treat ourselves, others, and on the kinds of choices we make.
! High Self Eesteem – " You feel good about yourself and you like yourself,
you understand what you are good at and what you aren’t so great at.

! Low Self esteem - " You don’t feel good about yourself, you are
unrealistic about what you are good at or not good at, negative all the time
! With a neighbor, make a list of reasons why a teenager might have low self-esteem and what things could be done to enhance self-esteem.
! 3 minutes ! Then you will share and discuss with the class.

! You will each be assigned a character to watch. ! As you watch, think about the following
questions and jot down notes as you watch. " Did this character have high or low self-esteem?
How did you know? " Give some examples of how this character's self-
esteem showed up in their personal choices and behavior.

! How are self-esteem and health related? ! What do you think the relationship is between
self-esteem and becoming involved with drugs, alcohol, or a potentially bad crowd at school? Do you think that a person with high self-esteem or low self-esteem would be more likely to do those things?

! You can do several things to improve your self esteem " Look at yourself realistically as possible. " Identify your strengths and weaknesses " Set goals and strive to achieve them. " Decide what you would like to change about
yourself and change it. " Ask for help
