The CONNECTION
Super September is here!
And a super month we have before us!
With our Wednesday Night Dinners and
Bible Studies resuming on September
4th, our “Prayers and Praise” Sunday
evening services resuming on
September 8th, our “Buddy Walk”
Mission for “Team Joshua” underway, a
Yard Sale to benefit our Girl Scout
Troop #9203, helping our Nolin family
prepare for Baby Boy #3 and more,
September is going to be an exciting
month of mission and ministry
throughout our Church and in our
community! What an exciting time to
be a part of Greystone UMC!
And along with all of the many
wonderful missions and ministries in
September, our Annual Charge
Conference will be taking place on
September 17th at 5:30 p.m. Led by our
new District Superintendent, Ed Glaize,
I am excited that through our Charge
Conference, we have the opportunity to
report on the goodness of Greystone
UMC to the glory of God.
What is Charge Conference? Here is
what our United Methodist Book of
Discipline states as the primary
responsibility of Charge Conference:
“Charge Conference is an annual
meeting to review and evaluate the
total mission and ministry of the
Church, receive reports, and adopt
objectives and goals recommended by
the Church Council that are in keeping
with the objectives of The United
Methodist Church.”
Charge Conference is that time once
each year that we have the privilege to
report the many wonderful ways God is
moving and working in the life of the
Church. Furthermore, our District
Superintendent will challenge us in his
vision for the Dothan District to
continue being the best District in the
Alabama/West Florida Conference.
Currently, our leaders are preparing
their reports for submission to the
District Superintendent and to them, I
say, “Thank you!” Your part in making
this year’s Charge Conference the great
gathering that it will surely be is truly
appreciated.
Now…to the Greystone Church
Family…we need you to make plans
now to be in attendance at 5:30 p.m. on
September 17th and bring a vegetable,
salad or dessert for the meal. A sign-up
sheet is in the Church Office and will be
located at the Worship Center's
Entrance/Exit on Sundays until
September 17th. After the 30-45 minute
meeting of business, we will share a
meal with our District Superintendent in
making sure that he has a true sense of
joy in what his Greystone UMC Church
is all about. YOU are a vital part of this
message of joy. I encourage you all to
please come and share in this annual
event in the life of the Church.
May God bless you all. And may God
truly bless our September. See you
soon!
Blessings, Pastor Teresa

Sweet Thank You
from Hope Rising
“Shower of Blessings” for the Nolin Family!
In October, Brittany and Justin Nolin will welcome into our world Baby Boy #3! How excited we are to help them prepare for this wonderful day in their lives!
During the month of September, the Greystone Family wants to host a “Shower of Blessings” for them as our excitement builds in soon welcoming a new baby into our Family of Faith.
A cradle has been placed in the
Church Narthex for you to bring baby necessities (Diapers, wipes, bibs, Target and/or Walmart Gift Cards, etc.) anytime during the month of September to bless this family as they grow.
Please keep them all in your special prayers.
What a blessing to bless this precious family!

Dear Greystone Family,
Wow! Words can’t adequately express to you the
thanks we have for your generous giving to our
ministry through your July mission focus. We are
overwhelmed by your kindness! The snacks, toi-
letries, kids packs and financial donations, as well
as the prayers, are so appreciated. We thank you
for your commitment to see the captives set free
in our area and beyond as we partner together so
that those we serve will have the opportunity to
know His heart. It is truly a blessing to serve along
side of you! Thank you again! May you overflow
with His hope!!

FELLOWSHIP MINISTRY Strong Community Life Matters to God
Congratulations, Michelle!
On July 31st, our very own Michelle Godwin received her LPN Certification after
attending classes at Wallace Community College since August, 2018. We celebrate her
accomplishment and continue to keep her in our prayers as she plans to take her
NCLEX Exam on September 5th for LPN licensing. She began her employment at
Flowers Hospital on August 26th as an LPN and plans to apply for the LPN to RN
Mobility Program. If accepted, she will graduate in December, 2020 as an RN.
Pictured right is Michelle (Photo #1) and
her pinning by our very own Shellie
Yeoman, MSN, RN (Photo #2). How
wonderful to celebrate both of these
ladies and how thankful we are to have
them as part of the Greystone Faith
Family. Michelle, our prayers continue
to be with you! Best of luck and much
love from your Greystone Faith Family!
Welcome to Greystone,
Olivia Watford!
On August 11th, Greystone UMC was
blessed by our newest member
officially joining our Faith Family:
Olivia Watford.
Welcome, Olivia!
Please take the time to welcome her as our new sister-in-Christ and invite her to be a part of your small groups and Sunday School Classes! How thankful we are that she chose to make Greystone UMC her Church Home!

Wednesday Night Dinners and Bible Studies resume September 4th!
Dinner at 5:15 followed by Bible Studies at 6:00 p.m.
Make plans now to join us on Wednesday nights for a delicious meal followed by a wonderful Bible Study and time of fellowship! There will be two Bible Studies offered as indicated below! Both classes are 8-week studies and begin at 6:00 p.m. You can make meal reservations on Sundays by completing the Communication Card in the Sunday bulletin or by calling the Church Office! (334-794-6725) We look forward to seeing you on September 4th!
CLASS #1: CHRISTIAN CAREGIVING, A WAY OF
LIFE
A BIBLE STUDY FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN THE MINISTRY OF CARING
If your special gift is to listen, care, encourage and provide emotional and spiritual support one-to-another, walking beside someone going through a difficult time, this class is for you! Bob Willis will lead this class through this practical, how-to guide that shows us how you can help others in a distinctively Christian way, helping us care for our congregation, loved ones, and community friends on a short-term basis.
CLASS #2: SEE ALL THE PEOPLE
A BIBLE STUDY FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN INTENTIONAL DISCIPLESHIP
If you have enjoyed, “Get Their Name,” and would like to further your gift in a movement toward disciple-making and “seeing all the people,” this class is for you. Team leaders, Ann Hart and Pastor Teresa will invite you into a conversation about creating a lifestyle of intentional discipleship in our Church and Community. “This is the Church, this is the Steeple, Open the Doors and SEE ALL THE PEOPLE!”

Save the Date...our Annual Church-
Wide Charge Conference with District Superintendent Ed Glaize has been scheduled for Tuesday night, September 17th at 5:30 p.m. We need our Church Family to plan to be here on this night to celebrate all that God has done, is doing, and will continue to do in the life of Greystone United Methodist Church. We want our new District Superintendent to feel the Greystone love and fellowship on this special night so your attendance is so very important! We will handle the Church Business at 5:30 p.m. and enjoy a meal together immediately following. A meal sign-up sheet is located in the Church Office and at the Worship Center Entrance/Exit on Sundays.
SERVE MINISTRY People Want Their Lives to Matter and Make a Difference
It was a time of fun with friends as our “Cheerful Hearts” arrived from their group homes for the August event. They were delighted to be here and many wore their Alabama/Auburn football attire as we payed tribute to the upcoming fall football season. We managed to get in a few games of Bingo before the
delicious meal was served by so many of our faithful volunteers from here in the Greystone family. Spirits were high and as festive as the beautifully fun table settings created by LaLonnie Hartzog. A very special thank you to all who donated time and food to make the event so very special and to Pam Pilcher who presented a loving devotional to close out our evening.
Our next event will be in October when we will set up a small fall festival of games...so extra volunteers will definitely be needed. Sharing the love of Christ in this joyful setting and with such gentle compassion and inclusiveness surely enriches us all. Praise God for the relationships we are building and the bond that is growing through these events of fellowship. Thank you Church family. BTW, we had two ask for specific prayers on behalf of family members. Please consider praying for our friends in the group homes as they are separated from loved ones.
We are excited to introduce our
newest member of the
Greystone Worship Team:
Jay Solomon.
Jay grew up in Dothan and
now lives in Hartford with
his wife Marcia. Leah
Solomon, their daughter,
attends Troy University
and Jay Austin, their son,
is in Northside Methodist
Academy. His
stepdaughter, Jessi Tomas, lives in
Dothan. Jay comes from a rather large
family, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He has
played drums since he was around the
age of 7.
Let’s welcome him and let him know how
much we appreciate his contributions to
the music of Greystone. Welcome, Jay!

THANKS MINISTRY God Inhabits the Praises of His People
"There is praise and then there is worship. Praise comes from the place within us that testifies our belief and experience of God's nature as we bring Him an offering every time we choose to confess and agree with this in song. Worship is when we ourselves become the offering. It's the expression of an internal reality, a posture of sacrifice."
This quote from Bill Johnson, Pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California resonated with me when I first heard it. Music is a powerful expression that has been used by believers through the generations to express their praise and worship to the One who is worthy. Countless hymns were written as ways for early believers to learn the Word when they were not able to read the text for themselves. Later it became a way for groups of believers to express their love and adoration to the Holy One. Today there are new songs being written and sung all over the world that resonate with people from all walks of life. It is hard to deny the power of the truth of Scripture being put to verse and lifted high in song.
Now it’s your opportunity to share with your Greystone family the song that testifies (your) belief and experience of "God’s nature.” You know, that song that you just go back to time and again. The one that truly nourishes your soul when you need it the most. The one you hum as you go about your day. If you would like to participate, all you have to do is let me know the song and the style (Hymn, Contemporary, etc.,) and we will schedule a Sunday to sing it together as a Congregation (or maybe share via video). This is the catch: the Sunday we sing the song, we would ask that you be willing to give a brief testimony as to WHY this song speaks to you in the way it does. We are calling this: Greystone: Songs of Our Faith, and we hope that you will share your song with us.
You can email me (cadkins5@icloud.com), call me (334-618-6517), or see me after a service.
Making a joyful noise,
Chris Adkins
Upcoming:
Choir Practice - Beginning Wednesday night September the 11th, we will resume Choir Practice at 7 pm.
Christmas Musical - We will begin practicing for our Christmas Musical soon and would love to have you join the Choir. Just let me know if you would like to be a part of the Choir for this event!
Sharing songs from Greystone: Songs of Our Faith
