A Letter From the Editor: My name is Wendy Gilmour and I’ve been producing the SME Tucson Section Newsletter since October of 2007. This Newsletter will be my last as I am moving back to Florida to be with family after the birth of my daughter Cierra. It has been wonderful getting to know everyone and I wish nothing but the best for the SME Section! Taking my place will be my best friend Kalyn Galvez (who is also the section secretary and new website coordinator), we have worked together at Geotemps and I know she will do a wonderful job!! Please contact Kalyn at kgalvez@geotemps.com with any questions.
Just to Say Thanks: I just wanted to take a moment to thank Former SME Student Chapter Representa-tive for 2007-2008 Erron Winsor (pictured left) for helping keep the Tucson Section of SME connected with the students this year, its been a great help!
Saying Goodbye: Wendy Gilmour and Kalyn Galvez (Above) with a gift from the board members of SME for Eben a Robinson and his newborn son.

2008 Spring Semester SME Scholarship Recipients
I f you couldn’t make it out to this years annual SME Student BBQ you missed out on a great time!! There was a lot of great food,
games, Mine tours and raffle prizes galore!! This U of A Student event is a great opportunity for family’s to come out together and see what the students have been working on out at the mine. For this Spring Semester the Tucson Section of SME was able to award 6 scholarships to qualifying U of A Students. Also SME was able to award $1,500 to the U of A for Mary Poulton’s department to help with their operating budget. The BBQ this year wouldn’t have been possible without the help of volunteers and the generous donation of $250 for the student dinner fund from Volker Spieth. Thanks to everyone who could make it out to support the students and hope to see everyone out there next year!!
