SUCCESS STORY UNDER COMPONENT SELF EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM OF DAY-NULM
A young girl, Anuradha aspired to have her own
beauty parlour but for establishing parlour she
needed money. She visited different banks for finan-
cial assistance but all her efforts were in vain. Then
one day she visited DAY-NULM for assistance and
came to know about the scheme and its benefits or
about the process of loaning. She applied for a loan
of Rs. 200000/ and the same was sanctioned from
State Bank of India. She started her beauty parlour
and is earning well. Now, she has become independ-
ent.
She has started to repay her instalment against loan
which she took from the bank for starting the parlour.
She used a part of amount for buying the branded
products. Now, her life has totally changed and she
is making good profit out of her enterprise. She is
also helping her parents financially.

Moreover, the aim of celebration of
this event is to pay tribute to the great man,
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his birth anni-
versary by remembering his extraordinary
works for the country. He really worked
hard in keeping India united.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was
introduced by the Government of India and inaugu-
rated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in
2014. The intent is to pay tribute to Sardar Val-
labhbhai Patel, who was instrumental in keeping the
India united. It is celebrated on 31st October of
every year as an annual commemoration of the
birthday of the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai
Patel, one of the founding leaders of Republic of In-
dia.
In wake of said programme Municipal Corpo-
ration Shimla also celebrated the 143rd birth anniver-
sary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. In order to cele-
brate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, Municipal Corporation
Shimla organised an event on 31st Oct., 2018 and
said ceremony was attended by all the HODs and by
its staff. An event was inaugurated by Joint Commis-
sioner, MC Shimla and programme was followed by
the documentary shown on the life of Sardar Patel
or ended with the pledge ceremony.
Accordingly, the said day was also
celebrated with Self Help Groups and Area Level
Federation formed under DAY-NULM at Totu and
Annadale ward. Manager( skills and Micro Enter-
prises) of DAY-NULM narrated some great accom-
plishments of Sardar Patel to all members by narrat-
ing that as we know that he was bestowed with the
title of Sardar by his co-workers and he is known as
the architect of Independent India. Sardar Patel was

To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to
put focus on sanitation, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, launched
the Swachh Bharat Mission that aims to achieve the mission of Swachh Bharat by
2019, as a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
Swachh Bharat Mission , is the largest behaviour change campaign ever attempted
in the field of sanitation in the world.
In order to achieve the objective of Swachh Bharat Mission, The Municipal
Corporation Shimla is doing its best by communicating mass pledge message on
Swachh Bharat Mission , Organising Painting competition, Essay Writing Competi-
tion, creating awareness among public and displaying of banner to sensitize mass.
All these events are being organised with the help of school children as it is evident
that the role of students are most vital and moreover, students are future genera-
tion of the nation. Therefore, they can create awareness among people to stop lit-
tering , they can urge the neighbours to use public waste disposal systems or can
make it social issue. Student can touch the life of every citizen and no one is better
ambassadors other then them for such a noble cause. Keeping in view these
facts, M.C. Shimla has approached the students’ of different school to become am-
bassadors of Swachh Bharat Mission. In this regard students of different school’s
are being sensitized by the functionaries of M.C. Shimla. In this regard, brochure
consisting pledge to become “Mukhya Mantri Swachhta Doot” to keep Shimla
City clean, green and be saviour of water are being distributed. Further, in order to
keep Shimla City clean and green, M.C. Shimla has launched Swachhta App to
cherish the dream of Swachhta.

DEVELOPMENT OF PARK Building a healthy network of parks in our city is one major way to save and preserve local
ecosystem. Parks benefit everyone in the community. They benefit the economy and also teach
children about the environment and the importance of preserving natural ecosystems. They sup-
port human health and wellness. Parks are emerging as important public health solutions in
Shimla City to spend the leisure time or to get rid from the hustle and bustle of the city life. These
days stress is becoming major contributor to ill health due to busy schedule and shortage of
open space where people can lead their social life.
Keeping in view above facts, Municipal Corporation Shimla has developed parks and
green area in almost all wards to enhance the beauty of Shimla City or to create such infrastruc-
ture within the city which can cater the need of leisure, fun, quality time and to get rid from hustle
and bustle of city life.
Recently Municipal Corporation Shimla has developed a park or play area in Rani Ground
at Parimahal to cater the need of people of that area. Total area of said ground is 3271.50 Sqm.
It will facilitate approx. one thousand five hundred people of that area. To beautify the said park,
19 Nos. bollards lights and 21 Nos. ornamental light poles have been installed for proper illumi-
nation or for the glorification of park.

EXPOSURE-CUM-STUDY TOUR OF M.C. COUNCILLORS /M.C. OFFI-CERS/OFFICIALS to PIMPRI CHINCHWAD, PUNE AND MUMBAI
Exposure-cum-study tour was organised for the Councillors/Officers/Official by Mu-nicipal Corporation Shimla and expenditure was meet out from the fund received under AMRUT Project. Objectives of the said visit were to implement or replicate following things in Shimla City through SMC & SJPNL:
• Equitable/benchmarked city wide water distribution
• Water audit
• WTP & Pumping system operations
• Water quality traceability in WTP& Distribution system
• Complaint REDRESSAL & MONTORING
• Assistance in corrective strategy formulation
• Customized real time monitoring & analysis
During the said study tour the Councillors and Officers/Official visited water purifi-cation centre at Pimpri Chinchwad to learn about 24x 7 water supply system. It was ex-perienced that PCMC is currently operating the supply of 500 MLD water by catering the demand of 1.7 million people. At present PMC is pumping the water at the head of 72 m from the main source i.e. Poona River and secondly 56 MLD water is being received by lifting from the head of 1500 m. PCMC is using helium technology to detect leakages along with spectrometer and pipe locator which can be replicated for the Shimla City. Fur-ther, PCMC is using magnetic coupled meter for residential connection and AMR meters for commercial connection at the production cost of Rs. 6/- against the production Cost Rs.100/-
PCMC also guided about the new technology of billing and collection system which can be replicated in Shimla City for setting up comprehensive single point monitoring sys-tem for water supply system.
Councillors and Officers/Official of M.C. Shimla also visited Parvati Water Treat-ment Plant where raw water is being purified with the technical assistance of M/s. Shah Technical Consultants on O&M basis. They are providing filter bed, pulsar tube, annex building, substation, pure water sump well, wash water recovery tank, sludge thickener etc.
During the study tour, Councillors/Officers/Official also came to know about the ser-vices being provided by PCMC regarding the solid waste management viz. GPS Tracking System to track the garbage vehicles, UHF RFID Readers for vehicle identification, IOT Sensors to identify the status or level of waste bins, automated monitoring of transfer sta-tions, processing centres for daily garbage, inward & outward using weigh bridge automa-tion. The main motive is to adopt the Waste to Energy" (WTE) technologies.
In addition to this, they also learnt about the generation of property tax, municipal bond and slum redevelopment to build a clean, green, sustainable and modern complex. The same can be replicated or adopted for the beautification or redevelopment of Krishna Nagar, Rambazaar, Lower bazaar area under Smart City Project of Shimla City.
