1. OBJECTIVE
Summer Project work (12BA1303) aims at providing a real-time learning about the business practices and gain application oriented knowledge from the organisation. The students are expected to practice the conceptual skills learned.
2. SCHEDULE
Duration of Project : 4 Weeks
Joining Date : May 26, 2014 ( Monday)
First Review : June 08, 2014 (Sunday)
Project closing date : June 21, 2014 (Saturday)
Second Review : June 24, 2014 (Tuesday)
Third Review : July 5, 2014 (Saturday)
Submission Date : July 11, 2014 (Friday )
Project review meeting should be attended without fail. Formal dress code should be adhered.
A brief report on the everyday learnings to be mailed to faculty guide (th rou gh goo gledocs fo rms sent b y your re spect i ve guid es) during the project period and the
project diary should be submitted at the time of each review .
At the time of each review the student should submit the project diary properly attested by

Presentations at the project review meeting should be facilitated using Power Pointin the laptop.
Project completion certificate should be obtained while leaving the organization. (ReferAppendix 5). Feedback should be received from the organization in the enclosed format.
Rough draft of Chapter 1&2, two functional departments details and report on every dayactivities should be submitted in the first review meeting.
Details of all functional areas of the organization and day to day activity report up to June 21, 2014need to be submitted for the second review. Rough draft of the report should be submitted during the third review meeting.

4. GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS
You are required to strictly observe the office timings and other norms of office prevailing inthe organization.
Information obtained from the organization, formally or informally, orally or in writing,should be treated in strict confidence and no information should be disclosed to anybodyor mentioned in the report unless it is cleared by the organization before hand.
You are advised to take care of your health and make your stay comfortable in the place of work.
You are advised to be extremely tactful while discussing with people and avoid askingannoying, irrelevant or trivial questions.
You are also advised to keep off politics, gossips and other interpersonalcontroversies, if any, within the organization.
Bear in mind that you are going to the organization as a student in quest of knowledgeand not as an Auditor / Investigator.
Faculty w i l l visit your organisation at any time to assess the progress of the work.Hence you are expected to be regular to the organisation.

3. SIZE OF PROJECT REPORT:
The size of project report should not exceed 60 pages of typed matter reckoned from the first pa ge of Chapter 1 to the last page.

The table and figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places.
5. PAGE DIMENSION AND BINDING SPECIFICATIONS:
The report should be of A4 size. The report should be bound using flexible cover of thick whiteart paper. The cover should be printed in black letters and the text for printing should beidentical.
6. PREPARATION FORMAT:
6.1 Cover Page & Title Page A specimen copy of the Cover page & Title page of t he project report are given in Appendix 1.
6.2 Bonafide Certificate The Bonafide Certificate shall be in one and a half li nes pacing using Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 14, as per the format inAppendix 2.
6.3 Declaration - Declaration to be given for the work done by the student as per the f ormatin Appendix 3.
6.4 Acknowledgement It should be brief and should not exceed one page when typed on eand a half spacing.
6.5 Table of Contents The table of contents should list all material fo llowing it as well a sany material which precedes it . The title page, Bonafide Certificate and Declaration will notf ind a place among the items listed in the Table of Contents: The page numbers for theabstract, li st of tables, list of figures and list of symbols should be in lower case Romanletters. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this hea d.
6.6 Executive Summary A brief summary of the work not exceeding one page should be

6.10Chapters The main text will be divided into several chapters and each chapter may be further divided into several divisions and sub-divisions (Refer to the chapter scheme atAppendix 4)

* Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of t hereference where they are cited.
:* Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be typed single space and p lace d directlyunderneath in the very same page, which refers to the material they annotate.
6.11 Appendices Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which isincluded in the main text may serve as a distraction and cloud the central theme.
Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc .
Appendices, Tables and References appearing in appendices should be numbered a ndreferred to at appropriate places just as in the case of chapters.
Appendices shall carry the t it le of the work reported and the same t it le shall be made i n thecontents page also.

6.12.1. List of References The listing of references should be typed 2 spaces below theheading REFERENCES in alphabetical order in single spacing left justified. Ther e f e r e nce material should be listed in the alphabetical order of the first author. The nameof t he author/authors should be immediately followed by the year and other details.
The page Nos. for the abstract, list of table, list of figures and list of symbols shou ld beinlow e r case roman letters.

6.12.2 Table and figures - By the word Table, is meant tabulated numerical data in the body of t he project report as well as in the appendices. All other non-verbal materials used in the bodyof the project work and appendices such as charts, graphs, maps, photographs and diagramsma y be designated as figures.
7 TYPING INSTRUCTIONS:
7.1 General
This section includes additional information for final typing of the project r e por t . So meinformation given earlier under Manuscript preparation shall also be referred.
The impressions on the typed copies should be black in colour.
The font and size : 12 point Times New Roman with bold letters whe r e ve r necessary shall be
used to have un ifor mit y of the report.
A sub-heading at the bottom of a page must have at least two full lines below it or else it should be carried over to the next page.
The last word of any page should not be split using a hyphen.

One and a half spacing should be used for typing the general te xt . Single
spacing should be used for typing:
(i) Long Tables
(ii) Long quotations(iii)Foot notes(iv)Multiline captions(v) References
All quotations exceeding one line should be typed in an indented space t heindentation being 15mm from either margins. One and a half spacing should be used fortyping the Bonafide Certificate and Acknowledgement.
7.2. Chapters
The format for typing chapter headings, division headings and sub division headings a r eexplained through the following illustrative examples.
Chapter heading : CHAPTER 1
Division heading : ORG ANISATION PROFILE
Division heading : 1.1 INT RO DUC TIO N
Sub-division heading : 1.1.2 HISTORY
The word CHAPTER without punctuation should be centered 50mm down from the t op of the page.
One space below, the tit le of the chapter should be typed centrally in ca p ital letters. The text should
commence 2 spaces below this t it le, the first letter of the te xt starting 20mm, inside from the left
hand margin. (Refer Appendix 6 )
The division and sub-division captions along with their numberings should be le f t - justified. The
typed material directly below division or sub-division heading shou ld commence 2 spaces below it and
should be offset 20 mm from the left hand ma rg in. Within a division or sub-division, paragraphs are
permitted. Even paragraph shou ld commence 1 space below the last line of the preceding paragraph,the first letter in the paragraph being offset from the left hand margin by 20mm.

8. NUMBERING INSTRUCTIONS
8.1. Page Numbering
All pages numbers (whether it is in Roman or Arabic numbers) should be t ype d without
punctuation on the upper right hand corner 20mm from top with the last digit i n line with the righthand margin. The preliminary pages of the project report (such a s Title page, Acknowledgement,
Table of Contents etc.) Should be numbered i n low e r case Roman numerals. The title page will
be numbered as (i) but this should not be t yp e d. The page immediately following the title page
shall be numbered (ii) and it shou ld a pp ea r at the top right hand corner as already specified.
Pages of main text, starting w it h Chapter 1 should be consecutively numbered using Arabic
numerals.
8.2 Numbering of Chapters, Divisions and Sub-Divisions
The numbering of chapters, divisions and sub-divisions should be done, using Ar a b ic numerals
only and further decimal notation should be used for numbering t he divisions and sub-
divisions within a chapter. For example, sub-division 4 und e r division 3 belonging to chapter 2
should be numbered as 2.3.4. The caption for t he sub-division should immediately follow the
number assigned to it. Every chapter beginning with the first chapter should be serially
numbered us ing Arabic numerals. Appendices i n c l u d e d should also be numbered in an
id e ntical manner starting with Appendix 1.
8.3 Numbering of Tables and Figures
Tables and Figures appearing anywhere in the project report should bea r appropriate
numbers. The rule for assigning such numbers is illustrated through a n example. Even if figure
or table in Chapter 3, happens to be the fourth then a ss ign 3.1 to that figure or table. Identical
rules apply for tables except that the word Figures is replaced by the word Table. If figures (or
tables) appear in appendices then figure 3 in Appendix 2 will be designated as Figure A 2.3.
If a table to be continued into t he next page this may be done, but no line should be
drawn underneath a n unf in ishe d table. The top line of the table continued into the next page
should, for e xam p le read Table 2.1 (continued) placed centrally and underlined.

8.4 Numbering of Equations
Equations appearing in each Chapter or Appendix should be num be r e d serially, the numbering
commencing a fresh for each Chapter or Appendix. Thus for example, an equation appearing in
Chapter 2, if it happens to be the eighth equation in that Chapter should be numbered (2.8) thus:

While referring to this equation in the body of the project report it should be referred to asEquation (2.8).
9. BINDING SPECIFICATIONS
Project report submitted should be bound using flexible cover of thick white art paper. The spine for
the bound volume should be of black Calico of 20mm width. The cover should be printed in black
letters and the text for printing should be identical to what has been prescribed for the title page.

CHAPTER 1
ORGANISATION PROFILE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Bajaj Auto Limited is an Indian two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturing company.
Bajaj Auto manufactures and sells motorcycles, scooters and auto rickshaws. Bajaj Auto is a
part of the Bajaj Group. It was found by Jamnalal Bajaj in Rajasthan in the year 1930. It is
based in Pune, Mumbai, with plants in Chakan(Pune), Waluj (near Aurangabad and Pantnagar
in Uttarakhand. The oldest plant at Akudi(Pune) now houses the R&D centre.
1.1.1 HISTORY
Bajaj Auto came in existence on 29 November 1945 as M/s Bachraj Trading Corporation
Private Limited. It started off by selling imported two and three-wheelers in India. In 1959, it
obtained a licence from the Government of India to manufacture two-wheelers and three-
wheelers and it became a public limited company in 1960. In 1970, it rolled out its 1,00,000
vehicle in 1977, it sold 1,00,000 vehicles in a financial year. In 1985 it started producing a
Waluj near Aurangabad. In 1995, it rolled out its ten millionth vehicle and produced and sold
one million vehicles in a year
