Vocabulary words used:

An interaction between individuals from two species that live closely together.

Symbiosis-

There are 3 types of symbiosis

ParasitismCommensalismMutualism

A relationship between two species in which one species benefits while the species it depends on, its host, is harmed.

Parasitism-

Parasites are often microorganisms.

Ex.Tapeworms feed off of nutrients from its host, while the host is deprived of nutrients and gets sick.

Commensalism-

Commensalism is common in oceans.

Ex.Fish swim under jellyfish for protection. Nothing happens to the jellyfish.

Mutualism-

Mutualism can be necessary for survival.

Ex.Protozoans (a type of microorganism) break down wood that the termites can’t digest and get a safe place to live.
