The Spoken Tutorial Project
The Spoken Tutorial Project is about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) like Linux, Scilab, LaTex, Libre office etc via an easy video tool. Spoken Tutorial is an audio-video method to learn software effectively. To impart quality education to the students and to provide them job-oriented quality education, this spoken tutorial project has been organized in various departments of Handique Girls’ College. Developed by IIT-Bombay, the ‘spoken tutorial’ website (spoken-tutorial.org) shows the step-by-step process to learn the lessons from the recorded audio files. On completion of this training program, students get e-certificates from IIT-Bombay. Till date more than 10 departments including Computer Science, Political Science, Statistics, Economics, Education, History, Psychology etc. have completed the Libre Office suits training Program. More than 200 students have already received the e-certificates from IIT-Bombay.
Considering the utility of the project and its relevance to modern day education system, our students have found it to be very useful. So it was decided to renew the software service of FOSS in 2019 with a one-time payment of Rs. 25000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand only). Therefore an intensive training programme“6 months’ certification course for Computer Basics & Office Automation” is conducted by the Department of Computer Science of Handique Girls’ College along with the regular courses of the Spoken Tutorial Project.
