WELCOMETrascent Annual CRE/FM Americas Conference
Dear Colleagues,
Trascent is pleased to announce its Annual Americas Conference – to be held September 19th and 20th, 2017 in Cambridge, MA. We are delighted that Novartis will host this year’s event at its Cambridge base; a global centre for innovation and technology. We look forward to having you join us at this important learning, networking and information-sharing event.
Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, Inc. (“NIBR”) engages in the research and development of medicine. It focuses on various disease areas, such as immuno-oncology, oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular and metabolic, autoimmunity, transplantation and inflammatory, infectious, musculoskeletal, ophthalmology, and respiratory. Novartis opened its first lab in Cambridge in 2003, and currently employs more than 2,500 people in the area. It is the largest corporate employer in Cambridge and occupies around 1.2 million square feet of lab and office space.
Consistently top rated as one of the industry’s premier event, the Trascent Conference focuses on Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Management (CRE/FM) and aims to deliver rich insights through a multi-faceted approach to CRE/FM – by looking at legal, operational, financial, technology, and supplier market perspectives. This year, a major focus will be on how companies are leveraging technology and driving user experience. About two years ago, we wrote an article about market consolidation and its implications. This year, we will discuss the implications of consolidation from a client perspective. In addition to dialogue-rich panel discussions, case study presentations and leading law firm inputs the event will once again include senior executives from principal supplier companies to offer their market insight.
We look forward to your participation at this event.
Sincerely,
Rakesh Kishan Managing Principal Trascent Management Consulting, LLC

The session will detail how evolving market conditions and lessons learned through successive generations of outsourcing shaped next generation approaches and strategies. While all three panelists come from the same industry and represent organizations with global portfolios of diverse assets (office, lab, and manufacturing), approaches to outsourcing, conception of “value,” and sources of complexity differ. The discussion will highlight both areas of divergence and key commonalities, in strategy and implementation, and the underlying rationale.

3:20 pm – 4:20 pm
PLENARY SESSION 6
Flexible Outsourcing Contract Structures
Thomas Knox, Partner, Morrison & Foerster
Alistair Maughan, Partner, Morrison & Foerster
In an unpredictable business environment, facilities management outsourcing contracts must be as flexible and scalable as possible to address the changing business environment, including acquisitions and divestitures; site openings, closures and repurposing; changes in the scale and scope of services; and the addition of sites in other countries. Most customers also want to receive fluid, evolving services, not a static service base. This session will focus on ways to build flexibility and scalability into outsourcing contracts, whether at the outset of a new relationship or when reviewing, revising or replacing an existing contract. Flexibility and scalability can be built into many aspects of the contract, including the structure of the overall agreement, financial terms and incentives, grace or calibration periods, modification of KPIs and service levels, governance and change management processes, innovation structures and disengagement procedures. The session will draw upon the presenters’ experience in designing and negotiating facilities management outsourcing contracts in the United States and globally for maximum flexibility and scalability.

Initiating and Sustaining High Performing Outsourcing Relationships – Biggest Wins and Critical Success Factors in Early Stage Implementation
Brian Higgins, Director - Americas Integrated Facilities
Management, Honeywell
Monte Marcum, Managing Director, Trascent
Client organizations and service providers spend an extraordinary amount of time, money, and effort on “Transition,” the period immediately prior to a contract go-live. What is less often discussed, and even more poorly defined, is “Early Stage Implementation” – the period following Transition. However, careful observation of outsourcing deals, regardless of generation, scale or objectives, reveals that this “post-Transition” period can be of equal or even greater criticality to long term success than the Transition period. This session will focus on defining the Early Stage Implementation phase, with a focus on the elements that are of critical importance early in a new agreement, including technology, baseline definition and financial reporting, as well as service provider talent. The session will provide specific examples of ‘wins’ during this period and explain the contractual and operational means used to attain them. It will also touch on how to refresh an incumbent relationship and further drive innovation and portfolio expansion.
