Nico van Hoorn: Crime Scene

Van Hoorn explains: “As an artist I am not living in an ivory tower, I am aware of things that bother me that I would like to change, the idea of ‘Illegal Trash Dumping Is a Crime’ really needed to be worked out, so I made a crime scene out of what (trash) came across me and I took photographs of it” (Morgan, 2008). Like van Hoorn, littering bothers me and I would like to promote a change in this behavior. At this point I thought there should be a direct message on my environmental art piece like the crime scene ribbon on van Hoorn’s piece.

List of steps and sketch of Trash Trap

1. Collect as much trash as possible in large garbage bags using rubber gloves.

2. Buy a net that the trash can be easily attached to.

3. Secure net to a couple trees not too high at eye level.

4. Attach trash to the net making a web of trash.

5. Make a sign indicating that all the trash was found on this day in the streets of Allston.
