Turning coins

Aim: Investigate the factors affecting the number of 2p coins that can be turned over in 10 seconds.

Objective: To have an opportunity to compare data and calculate mean, median, mode and range of the data collected.

Year 6

Turning coinsPlace 10 2 pence coins in a row along the edge of a table, with approximately a finger’s space between them.

Turning coinsWork in a group of 2 or 3, one timing 10 seconds, one keeping count and one turning.

Turning coinsTurn the coins one by one, with the fastest hand from Year 5 first. Make sure that you go back to the start of the row after turning ten coins, and don’t work your way back.
