MISA Synergy The school had this opportunity
to showcase their talent in the
MISA synergy - the science
exhibition conducted by the
Members of International
Schools Association. Our
school was the host school that
had also participated. There
were outstanding projects
displayed by 21 international
schools that helped to either
enhance or spread awareness
with regards to one of the 3
topics which were- health and
hygiene, energy conservation
and agriculture. Among these
fabulous projects were, 3 from
our own school; there was one
from the senior category and 2
from the junior.
The seniors had come up with
an agricultural project that
demonstrated laser land
levelling and a water storage
idea of building an underground
irrigation system. This
marvellous idea successfully
won the 3rd
prize in this
competition! The junior team
had, at first, made a musical
pillow that helped relax its users
with musical therapy. This
played white noise that helped
relieve stress. The second group
came up with the idea of
generating electricity with salt
water and had this simple lab
demonstration to show the
same.
There was a project from
another school that had very
smartly developed a wireless
charging system. This was very
cost efficient and was made out
of circuits that had been thrown
out by other people. The other
fascinating project was the one
where a group of students built
a model smart city complete
with a functional windmill, a
hydraulics elevator and a hydro-
electricity motor.
The students of our school had
also come up with some dances
and songs to entertain the
judges and the participants both
before the judging and after
while the winners were being
decided. The council members
were assigned to each of the
rooms where the projects were
displayed so that the
participants could easily set up
their projects. There was a
combined effort of both the
MISA members and the staff of
the school too. We appreciate
all the hard work put in by all of

MISA, helped our young scientists of
TIS-CIE and other aspiring scientists
from 21 schools to make inventions that
can change the world for the better. The
event hosted by our school and held on
October 15th
2016 by the MISA group,
had many students participating from
various schools across India with full
excitement.
The event was inaugurated with a warm
welcome to the respected MISA
members and other dignitaries who
attended the event along with the judges
from IIT- Mumbai. This would have
been a daunting challenge as they had to
judge the presentation, use, and
efficiency of the ‘working models’ that
students had made as part of the projects.
Parents flocked to support and cheer on
the participants and see the various
inventions they had come up with. For
entertainment, the school choir sang an
inspiring song called The Climb that
gives a message to never give up no
matter what the circumstances are.
The event ended with the declaration of
the results. The students beamed as they
were called up to the stage to receive the
glorious trophy. Another surprise was
our school being one of the winners!
With this event MISA has encouraged
the students to think of creative ideas
which would be of great help in the real
world and would make a brighter future
for millions of people and I think they
have done just that!

The students of Thakur
International School (CIE
section) had taken an initiative
to help the underprivileged
people. It is an organization
known as “HELP AGE INDIA”
that had invited our students on
17th
October, near Malvani at
Malad (west) to have an
interaction with the elderly
people who aren’t entitled to the
luxuries that we are. The
students from grade 8 to 10 had
visited the site where the
organization treated the golden-
agers free of cost. All the
students were told to get few
packets of biscuits and even 2 to
3 kilograms of rice and sugar for
them. The school had provided
the transport facility for the
students to reach the place. The
students were accompanied by a
couple of chaperones.
The students were instructed by
a representative of Help Age
India to have a talk with them
and donate few packets of
biscuits to them. The students
mainly asked them questions
like:
Were they satisfied by the Help
Age India service?
What were their problems?
Were they alone at home?
From how many years were they
visiting Help Age India?
The old-age pensioners happily
answered our questions. It was a
very emotional experience
listening to them. We
empathized with them and came
back feeling contented that we
had helped them in some small
way. It was an overwhelming
experience.

Elderly Care On Monday, 17
th October 2016,
students of grades 8,9,10
brought biscuits, sugar and rice
to school with a mind set to do
charity. Knowing that we were
helping the society we set out to
the Malwani area of Malad
West.
As soon as we got there, we saw
a mobile medicine unit van and
a member of Helpage India
waiting for us. She briefed us
about what we were going to do;
we also got to know that the
mobile medicine unit came to
that area every Monday and that
people from around that area
came to receive this aid. We had
the chance to talk to the elderly
people…these people were
underprivileged. We asked them
two main questions
Do you like the service of
Helpage India?
Are you alone at home?
Everyone liked the service. This
pleased us immensely because
they were at least receiving free
medical treatment which was
helping them. Some of the
people we spoke to started
crying because of their poor
lives. When we spoke to a lady,
she told us that she was left with
her grandchildren…she had to
take care of them despite her age
as they were quite small. Her
daughter in-law had left the
children and moved away
somewhere because of their
financial background which was
very poor. We felt really bad for
her and could do nothing but tell
her to take care of herself. When
we spoke to these people they
told us that we will have a really
bright future ahead and they
enjoyed our company. When we
distributed the biscuits to them
they were elated and couldn’t
express their joy. When we
came back and thought over our
trip, it thoroughly pleased us. It
was a trip that will remain in our
memory forever!

A visit to Bisleri Unit On 26
th October 2016 the grade 9 and 10
apprentices of Thakur International School CIE,
were taken to the conspicuous Bisleri factory
where they were required to attain the brilliant
knowledge of the variety of productions and
how they are produced while being
environmentally friendly.
The students were placed into a comfortable
region where they observed the informative
presentation, which was courteously presented
by the associate existent there. It consisted the
appealing ad’s Bisleri produced, explained
about how Bisleri is related to the two major
academic subjects i.e. Economics and Business
Studies. And its purification process which is
healthier than other competitive companies
such as Kinley. These created many interesting questions in their working minds.
Later on a batch of 15 students were lead through the complicated processes of filtration and oxidization of the
water to make its clean enough for drinking as well each process was explained thoroughly by an instructed
guide, Mr. Abed. The children wore doctor like masks and nets on top of their head as well shoe covers, this
also made them feel extraordinary.
After the fun time of noticing all the magnificent objects, they were guided back to the conference room where
they were introduced to an unfamiliar glee face who explained how Bisleri is doing its best at being socially
responsible yet making fresh uncontaminated water. She brought up the idea of how Bisleri thought of building
a dam near to a rural village and made a heart touching comment of how significant water is for their low
standard lives. And so at the end a loud round of applause echoes throughout the area and each student thanked
and was gifted happily with a goodie bag! They even got to take pictures while holding poster to promote the
planting of a tree. And so the children enjoyed their knowledgeable yet long expedition to the Bisleri factory
and hope to seem them again since it was the only thing they talked about on the journey back to school.

Bisleri water plant Whenever we are thirsty we always ask for Bisleri;
therefore it is proved that this brand of bottled water
has won millions of hearts. On 26th
of October the
students of grade 9 and 10 were taken on a field trip
to the Bisleri water plant in Andheri. As soon as we
entered we got a glimpse of the plant while we were
taken to the meeting room where we learned about the
royal history of Bisleri. We were shown all the
advertisements of Bisleri and its array of products.
Later, Mr Siddiqui gave us a tour of the production,
purification and the labelling of Bisleri. We were
given a lot of knowledge about the brand and how
they are capable of winning millions of hearts. After
the tour we were also explained how they help the
society by recycling and providing various other aids
to the society. The knowledge we gained was not the only thing we received but also a goodie bag filled with
Bisleri products. -Marvi Jain
The Dreaded Dengue Fever It was a relaxed Sunday evening. My daughters and I returned from the neighbourhood market after indulging in some street side delicacies. It was Ganapathi vacation and the girls were in no hurry to go to bed. My younger daughter seemed perfectly fine until dinner time. Right after dinner she vomited and I assumed that it was the extra butter in the pav bhaji that was playing havoc on her little stomach. I dismissed it as minor indigestion and she too fell asleep peacefully. It was a little after midnight that she woke up with a severe headache and I realized that she was running very high fever. The temperature was 103.5 F. I was alarmed! The next two days passed by with no signs of the fever abating. It was almost Wednesday afternoon when we got the reports and we were shocked to see that she had tested positive for dengue. The doctor prescribed some basic medication and we were advised to measure her platelet count every day. A week passed and her fever was still quite high. She complained of severe headache and nausea. Her appetite had almost diminished. Finally I decided to try a few home remedies and Ayurvedic medicines that were recommended by other concerned school parents via What's App. It was then that I realized, Mother Nature has a medicine cabinet stocked with powerful herbs that can cure almost any disease or illness if only we take the time and effort to seek her out. Some of the medicines, precautions and home remedies that immensely benefited my child are:- ~ Adequate bed rest. ~ Drinking approximately 3 l of water everyday. ~ My child was given three sips of water every 15 - 30 minutes through the day. Initially we gave Calpol syrup which helped to reduce the temperature for just a few hours but the fever would be back again. ~ A bland diet consisting of khichdi and easy to digest vegetables. Coconut water and pomegranate to combat nausea. Dragon fruit and kiwi to help with the platelet count. ~ Giloy Ghanvati tablet from Patanjali ayurvedic chikitsalaya. This finally brought down the fever within 24 hours. ~ Daily test of platelet count at a diagnostic centre to ensure that it is within the prescribed range. ~ And the most important herb that helped to bring my child's platelet count back to normal within two to three days was the popular Papaya leaf juice. Just a teaspoon of the raw juice extracted and mixed with honey to counter the bitterness was enough to increase the platelet count rapidly. ~ Two days after using Giloy ghanvati and papaya leaf juice I could see that my child was recovering and her energy levels were much better. The fever subsided and her appetite was improving. She was finally on the road to recovery with God's grace. Eventually she went on to write her exams and passed with flying colours ! I would like to thank our Principal Ms. Lalitha Rajagopal for encouraging me to share this experience that will benefit others. Also would like to thank all the parents of this school who constantly supported, shared remedies and prayed for my daughter's recovery.
