The Iraq War

“Operation Iraqi Freedom”

On September 11, 2001, a series of terrorist attacks occurred against our country when members of the al-Qaeda crashed two commercial airliners into the Twin-Towers of the World Trade Center in New York.

The United States responded to the attacks by launching a war on terrorists, and invaded Afghanistan to dispose of the Taliban organization.

Ben Laden, leader of the Taliban, directed the attacks against America on September 11, 2001.

The U.S. Army goes to war with the Taliban and searches for Ben Laden.

The U.S. Army consists of over 100,000 troops.

Routine missions are intense, and very dangerous.

Soldiers often come back from combat wounded.

The U.S. receives word that Iraq is attempting to purchase Yellowcake Uranium, which is used for nuclear weapons.

Iraq’s President Saddam Hussein was behind the purchase of the Yellowcake Uranium..

The U.S. Army was determined to find and capture Saddam Hussein.

U.S. troops searched for Saddam for more than a year.

Finally, on December 13, 2003, Saddam was captured by U.S. forces.

Though their former president was captured, Iraq is still a very dangerous place for U.S. troops.

This is a terrifying place for anybody to be, including Iraqi civilians.

The U.S. Army continues to fight, and the casualties are piling up.

Day by day soldiers are being severely injured.

Many soldiers are either:

hit with an explosive.

shot while on a mission…

or…

The main cause of injury and death to U.S. troops is from

roadside bombs…

…which catch troops off guard.

U.S. troops go on routine patrols for up to three weeks at a time with their squads.

Some routine patrols turn into combat missions.

Most squads consist of at least 15 troops.

The U.S. Army has been brave, and fought hard, but over the years we have lost many soldiers.

Casualties are growing more and more everyday.

Many people believe that we need tobring our troops home now.

The casualties will continue if we do not get our troops out of Iraq.

Too many troops have fallen.

To the fallen and the troops continuing to fight for our country, keeping us safe…

We Thank You.
