Month of Compassion

Glorious God,you shower creation with abundance:

awaken in us a hunger for food that satisfies, that in the miracle of being fed

we will be empoweredto feed the hungry in Jesus’ name:

Amen

He looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples,

and the disciples gave them to the crowds.Matthew 14:19

THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH

PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH Pray for the new Province of Alexandria created from the former Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa in the Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East. We pray for Steve our Bishop and our Diocese, for Thabo our Metropolitan and the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, for Justin of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion, and all Christians across the world.

PRAYER FOR THE WORLD The Covid-19 pandemic has starkly revealed and is exacerbating the economic, racial and social inequalities of the status quo in so many countries of both hemispheres which makes for poor physical, social and mental health in all sections of the population, an increase in injustice and unstable communities. Lord, you are the God of justice and truth: lead us from darkness to light; from falsehood into truth; from injustice to justice; from selfishness to generosity, that our world will be transformed by your love.

SUNDAY 2 AUGUST

READINGS FOR TODAY Genesis 32: 22-31 Psalm 17: 1-7 Romans 9: 1-5 Matthew 14: 13-21

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM BISHOP STEVE AND CHAPTER - OPENING OF CHURCHES TO BE DELAYED -

In the Pastoral Letter from Bishop Steve which we circulated on Friday you might have read that he and his Chapter (advisory team) have asked the Diocese not to open our churches for services yet. While they commit to monitor the changing landscape, they would like to delay opening churches probably for another three months.

This is very disappointing news for those of us who had hoped that we could begin holding services again in August. It is important to remember that many members of the Parish have said that they would prefer to delay until the infection rate in Gauteng drops significantly.

As we consider further weeks ahead of not being able to meet in church, we want to assure you that we, as a Parish leadership, are committed to continuing our efforts to ensure the ongoing health of the spiritual life of the parish as we creatively and inclusively endeavour to meet the needs of our parish family and our broader community.

There are several things that we are currently doing to ensure this:1. We have started our “Abiding in Christ” engagement with the Bible on Wednesdays at

6:00 pm on Zoom. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/842943100792. We are upgrading both our tech - so that our Church Unusual YouTube services have

better visuals and audio - and software - so that we can be more creative during our services.

3. We are considering new ways of doing communion to make it a fuller and richer experience for all of us.

If you have any ideas on how we can make things better for your experience at St Francis at this time, please let us know.
