4 questions every high school student is asking about uni(and how an Open Day can help you find the answers!)

Wondering if uni is right for you?Choosing to go to uni and then thinking about which one to apply for are big decisions. It’s totally normal to feel a little bit nervous about your post-school options.

A great way to help unlock those decisions is to attend a university Open Day, where you can get a feel for the university, a better idea of what to expect and what it can offer you.We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which the University of Southern Queensland stands.

When it comes to exploring your post-school options, everyone’s experiences will be different, and that’s ok!

That’s why we’ve asked current University of Southern Queensland (USQ) students Baillie and Mitch to share their journey to USQ and help you understand how an Open Day could be the key to unlocking your decision.

“Choosing USQ was a bold choice to say the least; it would have been easier to choose the uni five minutes from home that all my friends were going to. For my first year I lived and worked on the Sunshine Coast and travelled twice a week to Springfield for classes.”

USQ Open Day can help you find the answers.

“When I was in high school I wasn’t the most academic student because my social life was more important to me. This caused me to fear going to uni as I never thought I would be smart enough to succeed at studying.”

So how exactly can an Open Day help you to find the right uni for you?

By answering questions like these…

• What do I put first?

• Should I fill all six spaces?

• What happens if I don’t get my 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd choice?

‘Am I making the right choice on my QTAC preference list?’

Ordering your QTAC preferences can be tricky, especially if you’re not sure what you really want to study or what the recent changes to QTAC mean for you.

If you’re having doubts like these, Open Day is definitely the time and place to get the professional advice you’re looking for. USQ Staff and QTAC representatives will be on hand to help you understand all that’s on offer and how to preference your choices.

“I can honestly say that studying at uni has been an incredible experience and while it’s not quite over, I feel I have already come so far compared to the person I was when I started. The prospect of standing up on the stage and having my family cheering for me on graduation day is the motivation that will see me through to the completion of my degree.”
