Discovering multiple prospects…

Through an experiment inspired by the story of

‘the elephant and the six blind men’

The students of the Second Chance School are being informed

about the experiment…

The three volunteers ‘make’ the students blind and lead them to the

object to be observed!

The first group touch the head, only the head…

• The assistant does not let them feel the rest..there’s a reason !

• The second group touch the body…

The third group touch the tail…

Then each group stays in a separate classroom to discuss

what they felt and to write down what they experienced…

All together again…the spokesperson of each group

reads..

It’s time for the students to see what they felt with their hands…

It’s a wild tiger…

Some were right, some were wrong…

Maybe because they didn’t feel the whole animal

As I wanted them to experience This is what had happened in the story with the six blind men and

another wild creature…

Amelia reads the story …

• Six blind men were asked to determine what an elephant looked like by feeling different parts of the elephant's body. The blind man who feels a leg says the elephant is like a pillar; the one who feels the tail says the elephant is like a rope; the one who feels the trunk says the elephant is like a tree branch; the one who feels the ear says the elephant is like a hand fan; the one who feels the belly says the elephant is like a wall; and the one who feels the tusk says the elephant is like a solid pipe.

• A king explains to them:• All of you are right. The reason every one of you is telling

it differently is because each one of you touched the different part of the elephant. So, actually the elephant has all the features you mentioned.

She then introduces the matter of prospect…and invites students and teachers to share experiences and

discuss…

When the project ends the students are told that this was a projec

When the project ends the students are told that this was a

project, which was inspired by the work of our friends in France, took

place in Greece and was to be presented to all of you in Turkey!
