My name is Tara and I have just completed my Advanced media portfolio for Media studies. I have thoroughly enjoyed advancing and growing as a student straight from my preliminary through to my foundation and now to this final stage.

This presentation will focus on how I have made use of real media products to create my own work and also how this has informed my creative decisions.

Stay tuned and enjoy :)

What are codes and conventions?

Codes and Conventions Definition - at the beginning of this course I learnt about codes and conventions and I also learnt about how they influence a

> piece of work. One thing I also learnt was that in order to properly achieve your desired genre you would need to properly convey the codes and conventions of the given genre.

> Codes are systems of signs, which create meaning. These may include both technical codes or symbolic codes. An example of a code that creates meaning would be drugs and guns in a social realism piece.

> - Technical Codes - This is all the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in a media text (e.g. - camera work or editing).

> - Symbolic Codes - This shows what is beneath the surface of what we see. For example, a characters action can show you how they are feeling and their emotions.
