TIP´S How to get a job as a teacher

• “How can I do more than just apply and hope HR will see my application and be interested?

• Plan ahead for the interview. Study up on whatever programs your district/school of interest uses:assessments, curriculum, practices like balanced literacy, etc. You better believe that you’ll be asked about that. Make a list of classroom management practices you plan to implement as well as any special talents you can offer to the school

More TIP´S…

• ALWAYS look over the school website and find out what the school is like and what they’re doing etc

• Email principals directly unless specifically told not to.

• Follow up with thank you notes – to everyone! Secretaries, HR personnel, principals, etc.

• Often it’s better to be quiet and listen to the interviewer and pick up on their clues that just jumping in and giving information etc.

Resume Format – General Guidelines

• The following guidelines follow typical resume format and business letter writing standards. These a general resume format rules:

• Font size of 10 or 12 • Perfectly typed with about a 1 inch margin (even if sending

via email, since it will likely be printed out) • Use only one font. You may vary size for emphasis, if

necessary. • Do not use different font styles. If you need to call attention

to something, you can bold it, but use this sparingly. • Avoid all-capital letters and italics as they are difficult to read.
