Our institution is called IES Francisco Giner delos Ríos. It is a Secondary school, based inAlcobendas, Madrid and funded by theRegional Government. Our school has a largenumber of students , around 2,200 and It isopen from 8.25 am to 22.35 pm . Around halfthis number are adults and they attend classesfrom 3 pm to 22.35. This is one of the reasonswhy we are interested in sharing experienceswith other adult educational institutions.

Giner de los Ríos provides a wide range of education servicesto adults. Here our students can complete compulsorysecondary education , post compulsory education andprofessional training ,obtaining their qualifications in Nurseryschool and Social work . It has a wide experience in dealingwith adult returners who either have a former education andare seeking to improve their qualifications or those who aredisadvantaged educationally through failure at school andneed their certificates in Secondary Education to do better inlife or keep their jobs. Many of our students work, havefamilies responsibilities or are of foreign origin.

We also offer educational possibilities to those who cannotattend school on a regular basis, due to their labourschedules,following our program of” Distance Learning “ Thestudents enrolled in it have the same opportunities and getthe same certificates as those attending classes.

Another highly demanded offer is the trainingwe give our students for a state exam, whichenables those with a determined workingexperience to achieve a higher degree inVocational Trainig. This option helps a lot ofstudents orientate their future.

So our institution provides quite a number ofpossibilities to our students, with a staff experiencedin all these different trainings, all of them high schoolteachers, really involved in adult learners issues andwilling to help them, encourage them and makethem aware of how important education is in everyperson´s life.
