Radio stations became an important venue for bands and solo singers to perform and become popular nationwide.

With the invention of THOMAS EDISON of PHONOGRAPH in 1877, the way music is heard became different.

Revival of musical pieces to fit the music preferences of the modern society.

Examples… “Triumphal March” by Giuseppe

Verdi in his opera “Aida” has been using for years for the graduation march.

“Ode to Joy” by Beethoven was used in Whoopi Goldberg’s film, Sister Act 2, revived to “Joyful, Joyful”

MUSIC and the MEDIA

“MEDIA” – are means/ways to transfer or deliver one to another.

Music can be accessible through tapes, compact discs (CD) and internet websites such as YouTube, 4shared, LoudTronix, ect.

Some popular singers of today had just used the internet to show their

talents. Pop singers and groups such as Justin

Bieber, Caley Rae Jepsen, Soulja Boy, and the

Pentatonix have used YouTube as media to

express their talents in different part of the world.

POPULAR MUSICAL STYLES

POPULAR MUSIC (“POP” MUSIC)- Product of the modern business enterprise and is disseminated for the purpose of earning a profit.- A music that is appealing to the majority of the population and became very popular and known within a certain period of time.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL- Characterized by the use of strong rhythm with accent on the upbeat and youth-oriented lyrics - The most popular form of music in the Western world during the late 1950 to mid-1990s.-

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL- Usually performed with electric guitar, bass guitar, drum set, piano or keyboard.- The term “Rock ‘n’ Roll” was first coined by Allan Freed (1951) from the song “My Baby Rocks Me With A Steady Roll.”
