How to Get Started• Exploratory Committee formed• Do your research – collect & review data to see trends &
projected growth • Is there local sorority or interest group interest in NPC
affiliation?• Notify your NPC Area Advisor• Findings are presented to your PH – motion to expand
moves the process forward
What Data Should be Collected?
• Size of current chapters vs. total• Recruitment trends and stats for past 5 years• Institutional growth projections• Interest in your Greek system• Potential obstacles (administration, housing, etc.)• Current chapter sizes manageable?• Will the addition of a new group enhance the
CPH/campus?
What Does the Data Tell You?

• Include/update your local chapter advisors & NPC Delegates/HQ personnel on discussions
• Delegates bring vote of their group back to PH at a subsequent meeting
• Voting is one vote per NPC member group
Vote is YES – Now What?
• Contact the NPC Extension Chairman – need copy of meeting minutes with the vote indicated
• Determine how you will advertise/announce your extension opening
• Inactive/dormant chapter consideration and/or if there is a recolonization agreement on file
Panhellenic Extension Responsibilities• Determine the main institutional contact• Determine a timeline for the process• Select the Extension Committee – makeup• Determine criteria/qualities you want in a new group –
use that as basis for evaluation• Will you allow Exploratory Visits?
– No student contact during these visits
Steps for Successful Process

SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION IS KEY!
Once Your Group is Selected …
Getting the Word Out
• Putting news on Panhellenic and university website• Showing off the new group at Orientation sessions• Invite the new group to recruitment to observe and talk to
withdrawn PNMs• Create Ambassadors• Locations where non-Greeks are• Strategy: “Do you have a girlfriend?”
Share Your Success Secrets

EXPANSION IS A PROCESS THAT REQUIRES MUCH HARD WORK AND DEDICATION, BUT IT IS ALSO VERY REWARDING. IT TAKES AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY TO MAKE A NEW GROUP SUCCESSFUL.
