Patras Port

It is the third largest port in Greece.

It has 4 berths.

From the port ships travel to Ancona, Bari and Venice.

At the port work several people.

Near the port there are spaces for walks and cycling.

Cathedral of Saint Andrew

The Cathedral of Saint Andrew is the largest church in

Greece and the Balkans

It is built in the place where San Andreas died on 66 AD.

The dome of the church is 46 meters tall.

Above the dome there is a cross 5 m. and 12 smaller.

Symbolize Christ and the 12 students.

Cathedral of St. Andrew can get about 7,500 people.

George Square

George Square is the central square of Patras

Constructed in 1829.

In the square there is the Apollo Theater.

In George Square there are two fountains built 1875.

The George Square is the center of carnival events and

a place of political gatherings and concerts.

The "Apollon" Theatre

The "Apollon" Theatre is the most impressive

architectural ornament of Patras.

It is one of the first opera theaters in Europe.

Built in 1872 with plans by German architect Ernst

Ziller.

 On the old days in the "Apollon" Theatre played

operas and musical works of famous composers.

Today in the "Apollon" Theatre many theatrical

performances are given.

The Patras Castle

The Patras Castle was built on the ruins of the ancient

Acropolis in the 6th AD century .

Located onto a low hill.

It has high walls, towers and bastions and a large interior space

Build from the Justinian

Until the Second World War was in constant use for the defense of the

city

The Roman Odeon

The Roman Odeon of Patras was built in Roman times,

in the 2nd century BC

Today it has been reconstructed and is used for

events, especially in summer

Located west of the castle

It is lined with bricks and the stairs

are marble.

Many theatrical performances given in Roman Odeon.

The Archaeological Museum of Patras 

There is a hall with Roman house in natural size. Visitors can see the kitchen, the

bathroom, the wine press.

The most important exhibits are the Roman floors mosaic

Important also are the Roman glass vessels

and gold jewelry Hellenistic and Roman times.

There is also a statue of the goddess Athena, a copy of

Athena Parthenos by Phidias in the Parthenon.

There is also the hall of the necropolis, which includes three reconstructed tombs,

two Mycenaean and a Roman, life size, with the skeletons

and their offerings.

Archaeological site of Voudeni

It is located about 7 km away from Patras.

In Voudeni it has found a very important Mycenaean settlement

It has also found a Mycenaean cemetery

There are over 70 Mycenaean tombs and most are visited.

The site area is 180 acres and is open to visitors

Achaia Clauss Winery

Achaia Clauss is the most important wineries in Greece.

It has many areas in which to fit 7500 tons of wine.

In Achaia Clauss is a special bar. The tables and chairs have barrel-shaped, the

chandeliers are made of green bottles and curtains are made of cork.

In Achaia Clauss Winery operates a sewage treatment plant.

“Mavrodaphne” is the most famous wine produced by the Achaia Clauss.

Γέφυρα Ρίου-Αντιρρίου

Bridge Rio - Antirio

The Rion-Antirion Bridge is the longest cable bridge in

the world.

Completed in 2004.

Connects the Peloponnese with western mainland

Greece.

Manufactured by French company Vinci.

The bridge rests on four pillars and has a length of

2,252 meters.

The lighthouse

The new lighthouse of Patras was built in 2000

The new lighthouse of Patras was built with stones of the old lighthouse, which had been stored

The lighthouse is located opposite the Church of St.

Andrew.

There are also a cafeteria, a restaurant and nice places

for walks and games.

At the lighthouse are events and

concerts.

EOT beach

A very nice beach very near Patras.

There are cafeteria, restaurant and bar.

There are also huge green space where you can play beach volley

and football.

There you can ride on your bike and you can enjoy your coffee.

In EOT beach people do their baths and picnic.
